Case Lube Removal

Recommended Posts

Ok so this is my first adventure in rifle cartridges.

I'm using Hornady One Shot because its quick and easy especially when doing large batches. So there is a noticeable amount of lube after the fact.

1) do you prime then tumble?
2) is a small amount of media dust is the primer pocket a big deal?
3) is it better to tumble completed rounds?

I deprime then tumble

I clean all dust from case and primer hole

no tumble with live rounds

I size, then tumble, and then prime.

Don't worry about a small amount of dust. Just make sure the flash hole is open.

If you use a progessive press, then the only practical time to tumble is after loading. Won't hurt a thing.

I tumble them right after I size them. My crushed walnut litter from the lizard store never plugs the flash hole. 30 minutes usually does it.

I size then tumble then prime because I am on a single stage.

There is no issue with tumbling loaded ammo if that is what you want to do as well.

I use Kaytee Lizard Litter, Desert Blend. It is walnut hulls that are small enough to not get caught in the flash holes.

Thanks guys. That's the process I used, just checking. I used Franklin Arsenal walnut media. I haven't seen any plugged flash holes yet. My main question was with the dust, but I won't worry about it any more. This is just plinking stuff anyhow.

For the dust cut a few dryer sheets in 1" squares. Toss those in with the media and it will collect the dust.

Are you adding any type of cleaners or polishers? Might want to because that seems to reduce the dust as well.

As usual I do things backasswerds.

Tumble, de-prime, prime, size, charge and load.

Of course I don't allow anything "progressive" into the shop. I actually have 3 Rockchukers setup.

JK, I dont tumble, I dont soak in Dolomite's stuff.

Let dry, and reload.
