Never had the first version, so I couldn't tell you the difference.

I don't think they are updating the first version anymore, could be wrong. And the second one you can buy the themed versions. I don't remember anything groundbreaking with 2.0.

Just a side note,  I have noticed that if you use Tapatalk, click on the "Participated" tab, when you go back to the desktop version "Just Items I Follow" will be checked.  It happens to me every time   I assume this is just an interface issue, but thought it was interesting.
