Another persons post got me thinking, do any of you secure your tools to keep a thief from using your own tools to gain entry to your own guns?  Example, I have large pry bars, saw alls, hammers, cutters, acetylene torches, etc. in my garage, none secured.  At least if the thief is going to breakin, I want him to use his own tools, he is honorable isn't he?  I don't want to make it convienent for him.

some do,  some don't.   it has gotten to the point you have to lockup everything that the "pill billy" can steal to take to the pawn shop.  if a pro breaks in he will have all he needs to get into your safe.  if the "pill billy" breaks in he is too sorry to work on your safe using your tools.  he will steal your chain saw, drill, etc…to get fast pawn shop cash instead of working for the good stuff.

If he's in my garage, the alarm is sounding and the deputies are on the way (sooner or later).  My house isn't a fortress, and I'm not willing to make it one.  I've tried hard all my life to not live behind bars and am unwilling to volunteer for it.

I keep my stuff out of sight and locked up mostly for my kids' safety.  Your average smash & grabber isn't going to take the time to break out the saws and torches to get into stuff.  A pro will bring his own tools.  I'm not going to inconvienece myself by keeping everything locked up and hidden away out of fear of a buglar.  That's what insurance is for.

This. Don't give them enough time to use anybody's tools.

I inconvenience myself all the time.  I used to hide my laptop, and now that i have a safe, the laptop goes in there every night along with my external harddrives.  I've got plenty of photos I don't want to lose, and I don't want ID-theft data in the hands of the wrong person.  Two of my three vehicles that are not parked inside garages at night have steering column guards.  My co-workers used to make fun of them calling the devices "Fort Knox" along with those famous words "That's what insurance is for."  My cars are all "cream puffs" for their age and mileage, and no insurance company is going to cut a check large enough that I can replace them with similar models in the same nearly-perfect condition.
