crippled carry

I am currently laid up with a bum knee (torn ACL in my left knee). I normally carry on my right side but may soon be crutching around with one crutch (using my right arm). I don't know if my normal mode of off-duty (concealed) carry will work. I used my 511 vest today (G26 in holster in big vest pocket) and am thinking about a Jumbo Fatboy. Any experience/ideas?

Tommy! What up dude? This is Charles. Welcome to TGO. Scott told me about the knee man, sorry to hear about it. Have you thought about crossdraw at all? Not the best method, but better than nothing. If you need anything send me an im or something brother.

Cross draw was the most comfortable option I found I could carry with the last time I was on crutches. Only other comfortable method was after some rehab and when I was to the point that I could stand up in the brace if I had to drop the crutch, at that point I could use a thigh holster without too much trouble.

When I was laid up, I carried a Kahr PM9 in a pocket holster on my weak side as my right leg was the one that was injured. I could hold my balance with one crutch on my strong side and my left leg good enough to drop my left crutch and draw. It wasn't ideal, but at least I was still carrying.

I don't really have any thoughts for you, but I will say that this emphasizes the need to train off hand shooting as much as possible. You never know when some strange occurance could keep you from your normal standards.

Need to train both sides. Due to a ripped up shoulder, I had to switch to Right handed 3 yrs ago. Still carry right handed today. But I switch off to lefty about once a week. I also practice drawing from concealment from both sides on a weekly basis. In your situation cross draw is probably your best bet or a pocket pistol on the left side may be another option.

Hey Tommy, this is Ryan. Sorry to hear about your injury, I was not at the range all week due to my wifes own little emergency. Hope your knee heals quickly.
