Anyone play the Fiddle?

All I can play is keys and rudimentary bass, but I occasionally annoy myself on guitar.

Long ago one of mom's co-workers was a bluegrass fiddler and she brought home a real good sounding easy to play elderly fiddle the fella wanted to sell pretty dern cheap, for me to look at. It was not much to look at but well-adjusted, easy to squawk out notes on and nice tone.

So I sawed away on the thang every day for a week and started thinking it was beginning to sound pretty good for simple needs like simple melodic backing lines on recordings, no live work any time soon. So I made the mistake of recording my efforts and the recording wasn't nearly as "sweet" as it sounded when I was playing it. When playing it, I was apparently hearing what I intended it to sound like, rather than what it really sounded like. Kinda like back when I'd have the bad judgment to sing.

So recording the thing was enough discouragement to pack it up and send it back to the nice gentleman trying to sell that nice old fiddle.
