Anyone know about filing a mag catch to accept standard ak mags? I may be aquiring one of these soon if I can make sure I'm not getting myself in to something out of my league.

I would just say very lightly, one or two stroke at a time and sticking a magazine in. If it doesn't click in repeat the process again. That's the way it is on the Saiga's.

I'm not familiar with the ak platform. Can this be done while the catch is still in the receiver or will it require disassembly of the rifle?

I've never handled a mac90 that needed anything  done to the mag catch for a mag to lock in.

He said it wouldn't accept standard ak mags without filing. It has a 5 and 10 rd mag. I've never owned an ak style rifle before and honestly don't know what I'm looking for when I go to check it out

Some of the MAK90's actually have a rivet that sticks down from the inside of the receiver into the mag catch area and causes the issue. On most of them, simply file off the rivet end above the mag catch and you are done. Sometimes they will just break off if you punch them. You shouldn't need a bullet guide or filing on the mag catch. Very easy.

Ok so I took on the mak as a project. It turns out it takes single stack mags. This is why it won't accept standard ak mags. Anyone ever seen a single stack ak or have suggestions on getting regulsr mags to fit?

Turns out its a romak 991. But I still helped him out anyways. So I'm not sure how different they are but I figured I'd throw that out too.
