I got mine today too. I'm really worried about not being able to prove that I have a HCP so I can't wait until my ID badge with the firearm symbol on it arrives!

:D

Tennessee Sheriffs Assn. has been around for years. I grew up in LEO family and remember hearing about them in mid to late 70's. I don't know how much charity or support they give but seem to have some support in LEO community, at least around this area. Maybe just for the window sticker or bumper sticker but enough to stay in business. I get letters and some phone solicitations from them still, but just another group with their hand out. Just my opinion but I wouldn't give them a dime.--MP

But, guys, don't any of you want the "exclusive membership card with a firearm symbol identifying you as a Handgun Carry Permit holder in Tennessee?"

Stove

or the 2008 license plate. They will knock off $0.75 off the regular purchase price from $7.50 to $6.75.

I tried to look it up. The only thing I could find was a statement by Sheriff Tom Wall who supports restaurant carry, where he says the TN Sheriff's Assn neither supports or opposed the bill.

As far as I'm concerned, if they don't support it, they oppose it.

I got mine yesterday in the Mail.

This is the first time since I got my permit (2004) that I have every received junk mail because I was a Handgun Carry Permit Holder. I really don't like this!

Who should get my complaint letter? Steve Cohen?

Found it!!! http://tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5934&highlight=Sheriff

Now, I think all of us that have a letter should fold it back up, with the letter (http://www.legallyarmed.com/resources/sheriffltrhb410.pdf) where they did NOT support resutraunt carry, and ask why we should support THEM, when they do not support US???

That my friends is EXACTLY what I am going to do...spam them like the spam us.

I Just send this to Sheriff Davenport sheriff@jctsd.org (TSA President)

Hello Sheriff Davenport,

I recently recieved a letter from the TSA asking me to become a member. The letter begins "As a Handgun Carry Permit holder we know that you are a law abiding citizen, and worried about crime in Tennessee." ... The letter goes on to read that the TSA supports me as a Handgun Permit Holder. I would like to begin my response by saying that I have been a long time supporter of law enforcement, but unfortunatley, at this time I will not be able to support the TSA as a Handgun Carry permit holder.

If I may, I would like to explain my stance. The very first line of your letter to me indicates that you know I am a law abiding citizen, but yet in the attached letter (.pdf) your organization wrote a letter to Speaker Nefiah directly OPPOSING my right to protect my family in a resturaunt that serves alcohol. As a law abiding citizen, I disagree. The more "Gun free" zones there are in this great state, the more opportunities you allow the criminals to victimize the good people.

It is a well known fact that there are not enough officers to be everywhere at every moment, and it is also a fact that the thugs, and criminal element victimize the good folks in a matter of seconds. The TSA has outright shown me that they neither support me, or care enough about the citizens of this state to take a stand and be able to defend themselves, their families, or possibly another against an attack. Instead, they would rather me disarm, leave my gun in a car (where it can get stolen), become a victim, then ask me to support them.

I am very sorry sir, but this is a two way street. Until the TSA shows the law abiding citizens of the state that they TRUELY support them, and trust them as law abiding citizens, I can say that there is a potential that over 300,000 HCP holders may choose the route that my friends, and the pro gun communities I am a member of have. I sincerly hope that the law enforcement agencies and the law abiding HCP holders can continue the build on the common ground, which is to stop criminals from victimizing the great people of this state.

We must remember that the criminals do not follow the law, to a criminal, "No Guns allowed" means "No resistance here"

Thank you for understanding.

Thank You for your time,

Name and address withheld.

Hey canynracer, would you mind if we copied this well-written letter to send to Davenport or would it be more effective if we wrote our own??

Not to be left out, I recieved my letter today.

I simply wrote on the reverse side of their letter that "had they supported us in "restaurant carry" that I would have supported them in return."

Then I stuffed the entire mailing including their outer envelope into their return envelope and stuck it in the mail I doubt anyone from TSA will see it but it gave me satisfaction.

Question... Am I mistaken or did this group not come out against the restaurant carry bill.

Damn the old brain still can remember things. Great response to their letter I shall due like wise. If someone would care to forward this fight to all radio and TV stations I think that would be a fine idea. It takes either a lot of balls or a lack of intelligence ( I think choice # 2 ) to insult someone and then ask them to join up and give your their money
