I never thought I would say this after being a former car salesman and at one time a mechanic, I would buy a Kia if the price were right. I have seen more than one that should have died within a week of torture continue for years of torture.

On the Accords, stick with a 4cyl for reasons other than MPG's. The maintenance is a lot less on the 4's and they are better engines.

The guy at the shop where I always got my Kia serviced said he doesn't see many Kias in there for repairs. I just laughed and said it's cause most people just throw em away and get another.

Well, the 4 cyl have timing chains, and the 6 cyl have timing belts, which are costly to replace (~$700 - 800 from the dealer - includes water pump, etc...). Other than that issue, I don't know why the 4cyl would take less maintenance than the 6 cyl.

I have never figured out why Honda doesn't have a chain on the 6 cyl. In regards to mpg, my 6 cyl gets about 27 mpg on average, which broken down is about 10% city and 90% hwy (75 - 80 mph) driving.

.

That was $800 Minimuim every 90k miles. It uses a few more plugs, a little more oil. I noticed a pattern everytime I went to get a part for a V6 Accord. I would look up a part for the same I4 and then the V6, almost everytime the v6 part was 10% more. The radiator is bigger, the rotors, and pretty much everything mechanical on the car is bigger and more expensive.

The alternator for a 1998 v6 ex coupe was almost 25% more $183 vs $227 and harder to get.

It's for me and it's hard to explain so I'll just leave it at that

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

"It's complicated". Heh. I was in a relationship like that once. Trust me, it only gets worse.

When I designed parts in the auto industry, Kia & Hyundai (same parent company) were two of my customers. They were beyond horrible to deal with. I believe most of the issues I had were rooted in cultural differences, but geez.... what a total PITA. They didn't have the first clue what they wanted, but they wanted it right f-ing now. When you attempted to explain to them repeatedly why what they asked for wouldn't work, then gave it to them anyway, and it didn't work, they'd be pissed. Ugh. After dealing with them for a couple years I swore I'd never own one of their cars.

They put a belt on the V6 for NVH reasons. It's quieter and smoother than a chain.
