Alot of people up there carry 10mm glock 20s.

What for?

"Here hide behind this rock and watch me shoot this bear in the butt.  Really ticks him off."

My choice would be a Ruger Super Redhawk in 454.  Not the Alaskan model though.  I would want a bit of barrel length for moar powa.

that just seems wrong, you could walk fairbanks end to end in about 20-25 minutes. and another littile bit and you would be in north pole, ak and yes stanta has a house there.

as i recall in anchorage i went to sears and wards for the best deals.

i need to add if waiting til may to go, more important than a gun could be a very, VERY good bug spray, the flying blood suckers can send you into the water.

Not sure what you will find for sale up there.   All I can remember in the way of a gun shop was a pawn place, in fairbanks.  Not one to window shop, and dealing with out of state buys is usually not worth it, I did not look too hard though.   Nothing rings a bell as "unique".   The locals have bigger calibers, but its the same stuff we have in TN -- large caliber revolvers or big rifles.

I have one of these and some 300gr full-power loads if you want to try it.

For kicks & grins, you can also try my .308 Win Encore Pistol
