Huge fire on Lost branch in pigeon forge

Much appreciated Sir, it is not coming this way but 2 of my close relatives lost there homes and maybe more, i will know tomorrow if any others lost there homes.

Were the conditions that dry? We were just in TN two weeks ago and it snowed. One would think the ground wasn't that dry.

 

When I was still FedExing down there 'round '06 or '07, there was a fire on the Smokies side of lower Wears Valley that burned over a two mile area for frigging two weeks or more, and don't remember conditions being bone dry or anything. Remember several good rains during it, everybody would say, "that'll get it under control". Didn't. Amazingly little loss of housing though.

 

Bluff Mountain has had a scarey one or two in the last decade too.

I'm really surprised by this. We had a bonfire in Seymour last night. We had a hard time even getting the wood to burn.

thank you for the concern man, but i wont know much about what all was lost until tomorrow, and as far as i know only the 1 house burnt down i thought it was 2 but they said it just got damaged, but that was at 7pm... when i was helping people move out you could here the big propane tanks explode like a bomb went off.

I sure wouldn't call it dry, but it's been very windy (20+ mph) for the past several days and they're poorly equipped to manage any sort of large fire given the rugged terrain.  It doesn't help that the area is quickly becoming a big subdivision with the rental cabins all over the place. 

 

I hope the rain with take care of it or at least help the fire fighters  get their arms around it.

Yes doing fine, word is the fire was burning all the way around my families houses but never touched them besides 1... We got lucky the fire changed direction.

Blackhawk helicopters have been dumping water all morning, but the wind is still blowing hard.

I was on Highway 129 in Blount Co. yesterday and the air was smokey.  Never could find a fire over there I'm guessing it may have blown over from Pigeon Forge.

News this morning said its mostly out now.  60 houses gone and another 10-15 damaged.
