Just putting this out for an idea

Has anyone considering going into the business of making bullets for resale?

I mean, full on legal setup business, manufacturing?

Seems we want the major business to come to TN but any thought on forming a new business for the same purpose?

I don't have capital for something like this but would certainly be interested if others are.

Make and sell ammo here in the state.

That would be nice to have a factory ammo store close by wouldn't it!  I bet it would be hard as heck right now though. After investing in the automated machines, then trying to get supplies like brass, powder, bullets and primers with the current situation.

I hear the Feds are looking to buy some hollow points...

Way to much paper work, the government will make sure of that.

I've wondered what it would take to get started manufacturing primers. I can't see you running out of business...ever.

Personally I wouldn't even consider it until the prices normalize. Right now there is a spike because of demand, and pretty soon that demand is going to disappear.  If you planned on doing it, I would build a strategy around the ammo price being what it was 6-12 months ago and not from December till now.

Of course. I've thought about this for years. They are a piece of sheet copper, stamped into shape, and filled with priming compound. Once set up. I'll bet the primers are cheaper to produce than to package.

I worked for Star Ammunition back in the late 1980's, those machines aren't cheap, & several are involved in the process, for each & every step from stamping & drawing the brass, to sizing & trimming, to melting & molding the lead, primers, as well as the actual loading of the cartridges, for each & every caliber you're producing.

Even a small ammunition factory like Star probably had several millions of dollars tied up in equipment & raw materials at any given time.

Yeah, I think if there was some really high quality stuff, there may be a market for assembled ammo like doubletap.  Am not sure if they actually manufacture anything or if they just load, but that would seem like a more realistic starter business than a full manufacturing setup like you mentioned Richard.

Well new "assembled" ammo would just require the reloading presses, dies & component materials, so that'd be more reasonable on the start up end, less on the back end returns though, especially after paying insurance, hazzard fee's & legal fees.

Either way you'd probably be required to store the combustables in a bunker of some sort, can't recall the federal statute that covers that at the moment though, it's beeen awhile since I've had enough powder on hand to worry about that ...

Hornady, Barnes, and other bullet manufacturers started out as garage businesses.  Simply making bullets is not a regulated business as long as you aren't making complete cartridges.  Capital investment depends on how efficient you intend to be and what your production rate will be.  Use muscle power and a low rate of production and Corbin can get you in business for a grand or so.  Machinery will obviously cost a lot more.
