grateful for Walmart

it seems there are always threads on the internet bashing WalMart.

Well yanno, it is my favorite store. If I need something I can almost always find it there. It is almost always cheaper there.

They employ a lot of people locally. No one forces those people to work there so it must not be too bad a place to work for.

If I need some clothes they got them, if I need bullets they got them, if I need motor oil they got it. CD's not so much as they sell edited versions, but really that is my only gripe with them. Well that and the geezers at the exit that want to look at my reciept but not at my merchandise to see if I actually stole anything.

anyway I can't think of any reason to not go to Walmart and spend what little of my hard earned jack I have to toss around.

Unless another store has great specials going (like Kroger), I do most of my shopping at Wal-Mart too.

They do superior community service projects (at least here they do) and contribute millions in charitable donations as well.

I lived in a small town in Ga. a few years back, Wal-Mart wanted to build a supercenter there, the local merchants and towns poeple stopped it (really). Wal-Mart built about 25 miles away in another town. After it opened would you like to guess who was shopping there, thats right, they drove 25 miles to shop in a store that they fought to keep out of their own town.

I like the fact that I can go in there a 3 AM and buy most of what I want.Only downside is they only have one cashier working at that time and I usually get behind JaQueeta or Shelia Fay with a buggy full of groceries.

A walmart went in in my town and a little over a year later we have seen a local grocery store go out of business, Freds, Pamida, and a few other smaller stores. If you like cheaper prices (due to no competition), less choice, and no small businesses or privately owned businesses I guess walmart is great. I refuse to shop at walmart but I will confess to buying ammo there a few times lol.

On that note, I was super glad when a Kroger moved into my little town last year. One of Naifeh's grocery stores was the ONLY grocery in town until then, and ya felt raped everytime you left there. I went in maybe 4 times a year when I just didn't feel like driving the 9 miles to Wal-mart for 2 or 3 items.

I hope and pray Kroger puts them out of business for gouging the local community for so many years because they knew they were the only game in town.

I will not shop at Walmart and this has been a bone of contention in my house (my wife loves them).

I work in the transportation and mfg industry. Over the years I have had several clients land contracts with them to either provide services or produce goods. Initially the contracts look good. Over the period of the initial contract increasing demands are made and are usually met by increased investment on my clients' part in machinery, equipment and reallocation of resources to meet these demands. Most often additional debt is incurred to fill an apparent lucrative contract. Upon renewal of the contract, is has been my experience, Walmart will most often tender a much reduced figure, reducing the client to either accept a break-even or slight loss while looking to replace the Walmart contract or face certain doom should they reject the contract as they will not be able to service the debt incurred meeting the added demands of the original contract.

For the last 10-15 years any time one of my clients mentions they are in the process of negotiating a contract with Walmart, I give them a copy of my "Wally" file which contains 14 companies representing hundreds of employees that entered into agreements with this company from 1987-1995 who are no longer with us as a result... I will not take on any new clients with more than 5% of revenue generated from Walmart.

I also believe in supporting my locally business. I will pay 10-15% more for the ability to shop, eat, get services from a locally owned mom-and-pop operation than I will from a Chainstore.

I shop at the closest available store, whatever the name on the door. Because the oil companies are raping me without using another petroleum based product. So at this point I operate on Wallet loyalty.

Well Lowe's, Home Depot and any other large corporation does as Wal-Mart on their contracts. I have worked for companies that supply products for them and the contracts go the same way. Large contract to get reduced prices then less money each time the contract is renegotiated, the supply company has tied up so much money in reequiping for the contract that they have to keep going with them to pay off the debt.

Seems it is the American way to want quality at crap prices.

The main reason I hate Wal-Mart is that they are so damned crowded. Go during the day, ten people are in each line. Go at night, the aisles are full of pallets for the stockers. Not to mention that it's always a great place to pick up a couple new door dings--they won't ever clear the damned baskets off the lot. Having said that, they do have a good price on 9mm WWB.
