Milwaukee: Marine with concealed carry permit stops man from beating woman

I know it's not TN but its nice to see a news story like this, reported...

...and now my cynical side: I wish it hadn't been a Marine. I feel like when an anti sees this they don't see a law abiding citizen, they see a "soldier trained by the government to use firearms." whatever. Score one for the good guys.

It sure is. It's also a fine example of someone who believes in the right things, like the preservation of life,

as opposed to liberals, who don't.

I love how in the article the police chief states that police "don't encourage" citizens lawfully stopping a brutal attack on a defenseless woman in the middle of the night.

How do you "not encourage" what Blackmore did?  That's the same thing as saying, "The proper thing to do here was let the bastard keep beating that poor woman until it was convenient for a police officer to show up."

I thought the same thing, at first. Then I started thinking of different scenarios.

Maybe in this case it was easy to tell who the victim was. What if it wasn't so easy? What if it was two guy who were fighting and you missed the part where the attacker did his thing but you walked in on the part where the victim got the upper hand? What if you mistake the victim for the attacker and things go sideways?

My point is that I don't think the police think what Blackmore did was wrong, they just don't want to encourage people to use lethal force every time they happen upon a fight.

I could be totally wrong. I'm just trying to think about this from the police officer's perspective. For the record, I think more people need to be looking out for others. The choice to use lethal force has to be weighed heavily and quickly, though.

I agree with Razz's post. Sometimes things aren't always what they seem. I remember a few years ago a retired police officer in NY tried to intervene when two men were fighting on the ground; one armed with a gun. The armed guy didn't drop his weapon, and was shot to death by the retired officer. It turned out the "gunman" was an off-duty LEO who was wrestling with a robbery suspect. If something is blatantly obvious like an active shooter, I will intervene. Not to sound cynical, but everyone else is on their own.
