Armed Guard Certification

I'm looking into getting certified as an armed guard, I'm just wondering where to start. It seems there is the one main class but a variety of others for the variety of instruments they carry. Are they all necessary? Should I take the class and try and get a job or try and get on with a security company with the reservation that I first take the class (or all the classes)? Any input on this would be appreciated.

The company I work for helped me get unarmed certification.  I imagine that other companies are the same.

p.s.  choose a different career :)

I was told they changed the laws in 2008. You need to have a sponsor now. I know when I got mine you could just get the training done and get your license.

I am sure there are members with more current info but that is what I was told by the licensing and insurance division after mine expired.

Go to guns and leather and take the 2 day armed guard class they offer. Do not get additional training for baton, spray, etc.

The company that hires you will tell you what additional training to get if they want you to have it. The armed license is the most important to have. It will get your foot in the door. Total cost for the license, with class, should be around 350.00 or less.

I am un aware of any sponsor requirement. I did not have one when I first received my license and I did not have a sponsor when I renewed last year.

Also, take the class using the gun you plan on carrying on the job. You can not carry a different gun type, make or caliber than the gun you take the class with. You must certify again if you wish to change to a different weapon of any kind.
