Would it be legal??

I applied for my HCP on Feb 2 and called the Department of Safety today to check on my application.  I was informed that my HCP was issued on March 4th and that I should recieve it in the mail in the next 7-14 business days by mail.  Hooray!!  Anyway, am I legal to carry even though I don't have the actual permit in hand??

no your not legal to carry, you must have the permit on you if you carry.

In the mean time, you're OK to carry on your own property and at your business if you're the business owner.

I encourage you to wear it around your house. Get used to the weight and play with the position/cant to find what works best for you.

You can grab some snap caps and practice your draw-aim-shoot motion too. Follow all the safety rules.

Well, it looks like a moot point now.  I went home for lunch and it was in my mailbox.  Am I required to make my Wallyworld walk today or can I put it off till the weekend when all the really special people are there!

In all seriousness though, I do not take this responsibility lightly.  I have been shooting guns for over 40 years now and do shoot regularly. Rifles, pistols, shotguns and muzzloaders.  My family and I shoot for fun at least a couple of times a month.  If it goes bang, we want to shoot it.

Congrats, titan.

Walmart Walk is always more fun when the parking lot is full of out-of-county or out-of-state tags...it just makes things more interesting. The weekend is better. And in Murfreesboro go to the older west-side Walmart. Too many Woodbury customers at the east-side location, and they could care less, 'cuz most of them are packin' too.

Just to be clear, isn't anyone (obvious exceptions excluded) allowed to carry on their own property or other's private property with permission?

If not, then I've been breaking the law on a regular basis for years.

You're looking for TCA 39-17-1308

It lists the exceptions.

Hmm...so depending on the definition of "other lawful activity" as in "     (4)  Incident to lawful hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, sport shooting or other lawful activity;", I may indeed be a actual criminal type person.

Time to look up the laws on shooting varmints.

**edit** I'm reminded of the saying the government has no power over innocent men, which is why they pass so many laws.

Also, thanks for the info :)
