Conn. Senator Demands NASCAR Drop NRA Sponsership

Demanding little so-and-so. What gives him the right, nay, even the cojones' to think he is in a position to dictate to either NASCAR or the NRA?

Just because he's a senator?

Murphy wrote. “Whether or not this was your intention, your fans will infer from this sponsorship that NASCAR and the NRA are allies in the current legislative debate over gun violence.

maybe the NRA and NASCAR see it correctly.  Maybe this dufus Murphy needs to go buy a clue.

Maybe the NRA thinks this is a good investment.

He's from Connecticut, which means the NRA killed his kids. I hope everybody is taking note of all these douchebag Democrats.

My guess is that NASCAR will tell him to put on the hat and go stand in the corner. He doesn't understand that 99.98% of their fans own multiple guns and love the NRA/GOA/2AF

Maybe a Texas speedway doesn't care what that Yankee Libtard thinks.

This...but stand in the corner? I think something more on the order of "pound sand" might be forthcoming.

By announcing this new partnership at the very height of Congress’s deliberations over gun reform, NASCAR has inserted itself into a political debate that has nothing to with the business of NASCAR.

Seems to me he is trying to insert politics in to racing and free enterprise...

His demand fell on deaf ears.

Deaf but certainly not dumb. Maybe he should try a little light reading on the subject of his duties, responsibilities, and authorities as a senator. After that he can take a long piss up a rope.

I bet there will always be plenty of smoking, guns, booze, large sodas, and pretty women involved with NASCAR. No matter what the libs say.
In the spirit of the honey badger: "NASCAR don't care; NASCAR don't give a sh*t."

It's none of his goddamn business who sponsors a NASCAR race. Why is it libturd politicians feel the need to butt into everyone elses business instead of doing the job they were elected to do? It's no wonder our country has already slipped into the toilet.

The thing is, the liberals have learned how to shout people down whereas the conservatives aren't as vocal until they really get pissed. We have to change this. Shout this prick, and anyone else, down.

Maybe he feels he has a say since NASCAR got some handouts from the Fiscal Cliff bill. 4. Help NASCAR build racetracks Jeff Zelevansky/Getty The so-called NASCAR loophole, in place since 2004, allows anyone who builds a racetrack to receive a small tax benefit through accelerated depreciation. This tax break cost roughly $43 million the past two years and will get extended for another year. Sounds tawdry, right? And yet, supporters claim the break is necessary so that NASCAR can compete on a level playing field with other theme parks. Looks like they got their wish. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/01/02/from-nascar-to-rum-the-10-weirdest-parts-of-the-fiscal-cliff-deal/

Make no mistake - NA$CAR is just as politcal an organization as any other.  Incredibly concerned with self-image.  That said, TMS (a Bruton Smith/Speedway Motorsports track, not ISC - thus, not France-family owned) and the NRA likely worked this deal out, and only then did it go to NA$CAR for final approval...and with actual money sitting in front of 'em, the suits in Daytona would be very hard pressed to say no.  Remember, they've been trying to shed the Southern regional mantle for years, and have tried and tried to make in-roads in the NY/LA/Chicago marketing areas.  So criticisms such as this certainly did not fall on deaf ears.  I'd hazard a guess that the living France's would just as soon distance themselves from the NRA as fast as they can, but dto do so is not in their financial best interest right now.

On a similar note...TMS recently indicated that they may break tradition this year and no longer award the winner a matched set of Colt SAAs. Even if they decide to continue that award, they won't let them be shot in Victory Lane, as winners of the past have done.
