Lee Anniversary press primer issue

Hey Guys,

I've been hammering out some rounds in my Lee press and something has developed over the last 100 rounds or so. I got out about 300 with no problems and now I having trouble with the primer holder arm. I have the safety prime accessories too, but they work fine.

When I lower the ram, the primer holder shifts off center ever so slightly so it's difficult to impossible to seat a primer. I've thought about the roll pin that holds the lever getting bent, but when the ram is at this level, it's completely free and floats in the ram. I haven't used to large primer holder yet, but I put it on there just for giggles and it does to the same thing. The shell holder is a Hornday and I was wondering if the through hole on a Lee shell holder is smaller to guide the holder.

Here's a pic, It's hard to tell but the primer is leaning towards the holder slot and away from the number 8 stamped on it.

Thanks!

My cousin has it, it's a pain. Wasting more primers than seating. Remove it and use the auto prime. The pivot is some cheap alum., a guy on ebay makes and sells a steel one for the same money as lee. Buy it or keep replacing the one from lee. Lisa is on her third one now. I bought her the steel one to replace it with when it breaks again.

I still have and use my Lee single stage press, primarily for rifle cartridges, and .38 spl. I've had it since the mid 1980's.

I've always used an Autoprime in conjunction with this press...no problems at all.

I've never used the press priming function.

Good Luck.

Buy a Lee hand primer. You'll thank me later.

You can't find the old version anymore and the new XR sucks. The weak link in the old one was the handle, which broke, but the XR handle works with the old one.

I still use the old version or a press mounted one for my precision loads. With the press mounted one I can adjust the seating depth so that they are all the same height.

Well...that'd explain why I never tried to use it...LOL

I have an extra of the old round type Autoprime stuck back.

It's good to know the handle from the newer one will work. I have broken the handle on one or two...but definitely being able to feel the primer seat properly.

What's wrong with the new one? I thought the square tray was the only difference. I was thinking about getting one, as I've nearly worn out my old one.
