New Orleans.

Sorry, not quite getting the point you are attempting to make and do not want to mistake it as this subject walks a fine line on this board. Would you mind being a little more specific? Edited by Chucktshoes

Referring as to the mass number of NOPD that simply abandoned their duties in the wake of Katrina. I'm sure many of them had their own families to worry about and such, but in the face of civil unrest due to the tit going dry I can't see many officers doing anything different.

That's what I thought you were getting at, but wasn't sure.

Honestly, I don't blame them either. While a noble thought, let's be honest. Those folks had families too, and I don't know about anyone else, but my family's well being and safety comes before just about anything else, most especially fighting a futile battle to maintain order in the midst of societal collapse. The really ugly side of the NO coin was that a significant portion of the LEOs that stayed on the job went on to engage in illegal and immoral behavior of the worst sort. It is bad enough that you when chaos ensues and you have to worry about Thuggy McThuggerson and his pals running free like some 3rd world bandit, but when those that are supposed to stand in the way of that are also acting like a warlord from the same 3rd world cesspool and knocking down doors and taking your only means of defense, well, they deserve the same treatment as the first group.

Yep, if I was a cop and society broke down due to natural disaster or civil unrest, my first thoughts are my family. No way would I abandon them for a job, especially in the scenario where the gov can't even pay me. Nope, I'll just let them fire me so I can keep my family safe. If that entitlement tit ever does go dry due to economic collapse, all those folks who believed that the government is responsible to protect you from harm will feel pretty darn stupid.

I'm reminded of that scene from the new Batman movie where the criminals loot Gotham and throw all the earners on to the street. Won't be happening in my neighborhood, but in the ritzy gated neighborhoods with homeowners that abhor firearms and thoughts of violence.... well, they would be an endangered species. Of course, the moral of that story was that the police will eventually come to the rescue.... I noticed that they purposefully left out the notion of the people fighting back. Yeah, that movie sucked in every way possible.

Some folks are gonna fight back, whether the libs comprehend it or not. If society ever does break down, I have a pretty good idea of who will be standing when the dust settles.

Those of us that are hoarding all the ammo?

Those of us that have enough to arm our friends and put up a good scrap. If it ever really flys apart to the point that everybody is driven by survival instinct, the real meat eaters are gonna survive.

BTW... what are we gonna do with a Prius? I guess we can...

Actually I was thinking the cops would go out and try to talk to em, getting beaten or killed giving us time to prepare our defenses and get our vests on. I never thought they would stop anything.
