I used it white vinegar the other day to strip the bluing off of a pistol i wanted to reblue. Let it soak for about an hour and it came out bare steel. I would be VERY VERY CAREFUL.

I am not sure who is recommending it for what, but as already said, its like soaking your gun in acid, mild or not, that can't be a good idea to do every week after shooting it.   Use a light oil to clean your gun most of the time; rem oil, clp, hoppes, etc.  If you need something else for a special deep cleaning, consider what you use carefully.

all understood, i had read where the suggestion for use was distilled water,a little bit of simple green and or a small amount of white vinegar.. all makes sense BUT...

no one mentioned what portion size/how much or percentage of each item should be measured and used ( no martha stewart jokes please)

I know about eds red, cool stuff, thanks for the link, am fishing for a good balanced combination to use for cleaning pistols and parts on a regular basis that wont turn a gun into a bare ingot...thanks!!

50/50 mix of white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide is a great lead remover
