NIB Nagant what to do

Recommended Posts

So when I first got my C&R last year I went ahead and ordered 3 91/30 Nagants from AIM. I opened them all up, selected what looked to be the best one(hard to tell under all that cosmoline) and wrapped it back up and re boxed it.

Now I still have the other two so its not like I need too, but I'm thinking Bout I boxing the third and cleaning it up to put with the others.

What do you guys think? It's not like I need it out, the reason I left it cosmoed and boxed was so that if it needed to be say, buried it wouldn't have much issue. Plus I thought it might be cool to show the grand kids one day what old Russian Cosmo looks like and to have a "fresh one" long after surplus supplies have dried up. I still think that's kind if cool but have been twmpted this week to pull it out and get it cleaned up.

What would you do and why?

Since you have two others I'd keep it boxed up. I would find myself in the same situation though. I get the "can't help it's" sometimes and have to tinker with stuff. I just think it's cool that is has been like that for years and years. Heck, in that shape it'll be worth a cool million in a year or so at the rate we are going.

I think you should get some nice glass, drill/tap it for a scope mount, put it on the gun, put it back in the cosmoline, package it all back up and realllly freak someone out in about 50 years.

I think I'd clean it up and make sure it really is the best one, then I'd keep it well oiled and in a dry environment. I'd take it out and shoot it occasionally, then clean and wipe down with silicone/oil cloth. I'd also look it over at least annually and give it a wipe down. I don't own any guns that I won't shoot. I have some that I don't shoot often, and take extra care with them, but a safe queen that you can never play with is just boring. :2cents:

Smokin45: the problem is the fine line between liquid courage and liquid stupidity. It's a fine line and gets quickly blurred.

LCPfraTn: I have a few I don't shoot, I keep them either for the history or because they came from family. This one has got me really unsure as to if I should add it to the shooting rotation or not, I've hot plenty of guns that get shot a lot, I just don't know yet...

No-One: oh man, why'd you have to go and show me that? I'm seriously considering getting a credit card just for that now, I haven't had one in eep, almost a decade. Of course, if I get a pallet of rifles I'll need mucho mucho ammo to along with it.

Maybe I can take advantage of the black rifle craze and sell my AR for enough to cover the crate? Lol.

If you order at least 5 crates of ammo to go with the pallet, they are only $160/crate, and the truck shipping on the rifle crate will pretty much cover the ammo as they can load it on the same pallet.  So for $3200 + shipping you can have it all!  Glad to be of service, I'm always here to help others spend their money.

If you've got others to play with, I'd leave it be.  I might peel back the paper and inhale the sweet cosmoline goodness occasionally, but that's about it.

... and those crates.  Sometimes I wish I wasn't so fiscally responsible.  *sigh*

I can definitely relate to that statement.

Please don't tempt me.  You can buy one and I'll keep it at my house so you don't get in trouble.  How 'bout that?
