I am a registered Libertarian, but I am from the Neil Boortz/Dr. Walter Williams wing. Support the war against Islamic Terrorist, Cut Spending, Cut Taxes, Reduce the size of government while increasing the size of the military.

Yes, the main Libertarian party has gone off the deep end to be isolationist.

So far the only GOP'er I will vote for is Thompson. The Libertarian candidates are a broader field than the GOP field this cycle and each is making it even harder to vote for them.

Sign me up for that guy from Hunt for Red October....

As a life-long 'pub, I like the sound of what Wes has to say in the post above; lower taxes, less Gov, stronger military, etc.

Another Fred Fan here.

Frankly, if the party nominates Giuliani, they've lost my vote.

Thats is one reason I am a registered Libertarain is that in the GOP there are too many people who think like Guiliani that more government is the solution to our problems even though most of the problems originated with some goofy government regulation/treaty/agreement/tax code/price control/etc.

It is also why I am very disappointed in Alexander. When he campaigned it was for smaller government but in his monthly email letter I have yet to read of him supporting or promoting said smaller government. He proposed a lot of regulations though to keep the government growing a little bit at a time.

The Republicans have a leadership deficit. Typically in this situation the VP would be running (think George Sr). Cheney doesnt want the job, nor could be elected to it if he did.

No one running has much in the way of credentials. The best one credential-wise is Richardson. But I just couldn't vote for him--his website makes him out to be just another big government liberal.

Ron Paul is the unelectable element in the GOP. I have voted Republican in every election since Reagan I and I wouldn't vote for him. Ditto for Tancredo, who is a nobody hoping to ride anti-immigrant fervor. But guess what, without the Hispanic vote the GOP isn't going to win. And they aren't voting for Tancredo.

I like Fred. I will support Fred. I wish Fred had a better resume. He could make it up with someone really strong for VP. I just don't know who.

Giuliani? How anyone can be anti-gun and expect to get the nomination is beyond me.

Hillary will be the force to beat. She has assembled a big grass roots organization with access to all the funding sources. She is smart, very smart. She knows how to manipulate the press (not that they will need much help). She will say or do anything to get elected. How she would govern is anyone's guess since she has no core political beliefs other than win.

Rabbi sums it up nicely. Rudy and Hilary both have a "southern problem." I don't see either of them doing well in the south/midwest. This is less of a problem for Democrats than Republicans. If southern Republicans stay home or vote 3rd party, that might be enough to pull a southern/border state into the Hilary column. (Note I did not say "Democrat." Much as on the GOP side, the true Dems have not a chance.) If Hilary does only as well as Kerry did in 2004 (not much of a stretch to think this is possible) and gets that one border/southern state, she wins. Simple as that. She has the money and the organization and her closest competitors on the Dem side (Obama and Edwards) have been stumbling.

Hilary's down-side is that LOTS of Democrats don't like her -for the exact same reasons Rabbi lists below. Will they hold their nose on election day and vote for her to avoid another 4-8 years of GOP rule? Or will they stay home not wanting to vote for her at all? I doubt anyone has a really good handle on the answer to that question.

If I was DNC Chair, I'd ask Hilary to step aside for the good of the party. That will never happen, nor would she do so if asked. Greed for power seems to take precedence over the good of the nation too often these days.

Vote your conscious in the primary, folks. Your guy may not win, but you'll be able to sleep at night.

Btw, how does Denis Kucinich rank such a hot wife? Anyone see her on the debates? Dang!

I think Bush should step down and let President Cheney rule for a year. It wouldn't do anything but make some of the liberals apoplectic, but that's a good enough reason. :D

The Democrats LOVE Hillary. She is their best big hope. Lots of name recognition. She is running to the center and actually sounds credible. She is their best hope for taking the White House and as long as she is a Dem it doesn't really matter what her policies are. Behind her whom do the Dems have? Obama? He is a nothing, an empty suit. Richardson is their best candidate but like Lieberman they will toss him aside because they smell victory.

What Dems have you been talking to? The Dems I know and the polling data I see suggest that for many of us, Hilary is "inevitable," not "desirable." Many Dems see Hilary as the key to 4 more years of GOP rule. Pragmatic Democrats see Hilary as a candidate that can't win in the south. If you can't pull at least one southern state blue and hold everything else, might as well throw in the towel.

What Dems have I been talking to? None. But the ones who matter, the ones who vote with their wallets, are backing Hillary like no one's business.

As for "desirable", in the new Democratic Party the only thing desirable is winning. Everything else is secondary to that.

In my day there were Democrats who were truly honorable people. Pat Moynihan was probably the last one. Today the party is defined by the Barney Frank Wing, and their mantra "you don't like it? Stick it up your ass." In any decent party, Frank would be a bad memory. Alcee Hastings would be selling used cars somewhere, not in Congress. Remember Wilbur Mills? Today he would be out of rehab and on talk shows, and of course still chairman of the Ways and Means committee.

Who was the last Democrat to resign in order to spare the party? I can't think of one. Republicans regularly do this because they are at base decent people, albeit clueless when dealing with the animals on the other side of the aisle.
