Well I haven't been around much since that last meet & shoot @ On Target. The reason behind this is I recently lost my job :drama:.

So while looking I'll have quite a bit of time of doing nothing, so I should be quite a bit more active here on the site.

If anyone knows of a company hiring IT positions please let me know, and I look forward to the next meet.

Sorry to hear about your luck. This industry completely sucks lately, for that very reason.

Scott..what was your specialty in IT? Helpdesk, hardware, programming, networking...

I'd say so out on your own..but that sucks as well right now.

I was doing webdev, ColdFusion specifically. But with a few weeks on a job I can adapt to just about any language.

Scott -

Could you offer us a rough outline of your experience? Don't have the reprint the resume, but give a few highlights so I can check some things out.

I "know a guy" at Comdata, but I think he was looking for Cisco people to help in the NOC.

I'll keep my ears open.

Ok well it will be quicker just to post my resume, so I've included a link to it. Thanks for all the help you guys are offering, it's much more than I ever expected.

At this point, I am also considering changing fields. Both my parents were in the medical field (an EMT and a Paramedic) and it has always been a dream of mine to work on a life flight service. So I am considering picking up a part time job/some contract work to carry me through basic schooling and then move up through the ranks. I'm requesting some information on getting my LPN license tomorrow (err today rather).

Again, thanks to everyone for all the help, you guys really are a great group.

DO NOT GET YOUR LPN. Ok, now that I got that out, this is why. You are 24, I assume you are not married and don't have kids. If I am correct on this follow me. The LPN is a great but you don't need to stop there, with about 12 months more of education, you can have your RN. LPN is a 2 year program whereas a RN is a 3 year program. You will then be paid a whole bunch more, probably get a signing bonus, be able to go anywhere just about and get a job. I would check with life flight and see if they would even hire a LPN. I doubt it, but things might have changed due to a lack of nurses. So in summary my suggestion would be at a minimum get your RN.

My wife is a LPN, we were too busy, we were too broke, we were stupid when we decided that she should get just her LPN. Now we are too busy with 4 kids, we are too broke to do it. Nothing wrong with a LPN, but it only takes another 12 months to get that RN. We kick ourselves everytime we think about it <ouch>, see, just kicked myself.

Breakdown of pay.

LPN gets about $16/hour on average to start, that is $33,000 per year.

RN gets about $19.25/hour on average to start, that is 40,000 per year.

The national average for RN's is $50,000/ year or $24/hour.

These are based on 40 hour work weeks.

My source for this and there is a crap load of info is from here, http://www.nursingdegreeguide.org/

Hope this helps. Yes I have a strong opinion about this.:D

My wife is an RN and works regularly with LPNs. As db said, you don't want to stop there. If you can swing it, push forward even further and get your NP (nurse practicioner) or CRNA (nurse anesthetist). More money, more money, more money.

You know what registered nurses, LPNs and EMTs all have in common? They all wanted to be nurses. Some just didn't make it. :D
