How are your local gun dealers, not the big boys like Bass Pro, Gander etc., holding up with limited supplies of ammo and firearms?  Are ranges still busy or pretty much dead?

When I got my M&P holster yesterday at Specialty Arms in LaVergne, they had probably 25 AR15s and a few .308's, I about fell over! Lots of pistols too. Edited by rugerla1

Went to the new Bill's Outpost today and saw a few ARs on the wall along with some AKs in various calibers. The new building is great and provides some much needed walk around space.

Is the new Bill's in the same shopping center?

Summer Gun & Supply has black rifles on the wall, Sigs and Glocks and 1911s on the shelf, a little bit of ammo and there were people shooting next to me, last week. I bought 2 boxes of 9mm on Monday and then again on Tuesday. Prices are higher than normal but I'm glad to see them with stuff.

LGS today: 80% of the long gun wall racks were empty (~1 black rifle, really a 22 with an archangel kit), 90% of the ammo shelves were empty, showcase were about 30% empty but a little higher priced than usual on common sought handguns with a sprinkling of less common fillers they dug up from somewhere. I took inventory in ~1 minute and spent 10 talking before wishin them well cause they couldn't have no money o mine today! it was depressing. I even stepped foot into walmart today, 1st time in 6 months at least, nothing but shotgun shells in the case, Nothing.

I don't think I'll ever go back there. They sold me an AK years ago, and it had holes stabbed in one of the mags, and dents in it as well. Also, they don't allow carry inside the store. Things might have changed since then, though.

I know that had to suck! Did they replace it? I've been going in there for a long time. For years it was the closest place I had available, then Academy came. They've always been pretty nice and helpful when I've been in there, for my experiences anyway. I was happy to get a holster and not have to wait on shipping or drive too far

Holes in the mag? Man, that's bad. Did John make it right for you?

I haven't been to Specialty Arms in a very long time. At one time, they were my go to shop. But time, other shops, and some private issues with the owner cooled that off.

I didn't like the carry issue, but it's his store. John can and does make his own rules. Don't get me wrong it's been a well known and high inventory shop for quite some time. John has had some great, and not-so-great people over the years.

Steve was always the guy I tried to deal with. Always fair and awnsered my silly questions.  Don't know the current staff, but was always treated as well as any customer when going in at any time.

There's always going to be some issue or another with most any gun shop. It's rare to see one that doesn't have a problem or two.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Specialty Arms, while  it may not be my favorite shop, it's far from being the worst I've ever been in.

Is that what's called "damning with faint praise?"  That's not my intent, just saying there's good and bad respones to all shops depending on the customer and how he percieves the treatment and response of his specific visit.

After all this, I'm actually going there this afternoon to meet someone and have a look at the new shop.
