Picked up a 590A1

Recommended Posts

Picked up the Mossberg 590A1 today. After playing with it a bit, I'm not sure I like this 6 POS adjustable stock and pistol grip.

I remember my old 590 with regular stock being more comfy.

It just feels awkward, but I'll hold final judgment until after I actually fire it at the range.

Excuse the dirty gun, it is right out of the box new.

Edit: Better cell pic of the M590A1

I have 1 just like this minus the rail of the foregrip and plus a flashlight, side saddle, and sling. I love it! I run mine on the second or third notch from the gun. Really fun to shoot!!!

My old one was just like this but with regular stock and minus the rails on the pump.

I swear I remember the button to allow the gun to pump (to load first round or play with it unloaded) was up on the front right side of the trigger guard. This one has the button on the back left side and that makes it difficult to reach with my thumb really.

Anyway...

Now I need to replace the Benelli M3 Super 90 convertible (8 shot) with ghost ring sights I had. Should have kept them all!

Now what's wrong with a little old pistol grip

I have one just like that except it has the standard stock.  I'm not a fan of AR stocks on shotguns, nor pistol grips on them.  Especially on Mossbergs, as you can't manipulate the safety and keep a firing grip.

Ehh, I handled it some more tonight and it doesn't feel as awkward as it first did. guess it just takes some getting used to.

Still wish that pump button thingy was on the right side, though.

Firearm unloaded, work action(again NO ROUND IN THE CHAMBER) safety off( NO ROUND IN THE CHAMBER)

Pull the triger, now load the mag, the action will function and you do not have to work that button.

And the sound of racking the action is a good or bad sound, depends on what side of the barrel you are on.

All my pump shottys are set this way.

Yeah, I knew it would pump after pulling the trigger. My complaint is the position of the button and this stock makes it weird to actually get your thumb over there to depress it when you want to rack a round from the tube (first round to chamber).

I had one of these when I was 18 years old up to about 25 and that was before it was called a M590A1; back then it was just called a 590 9 shot with ghost ring sights.

I do understand, it is a PITA, you should try to work a right handed firearm correct handed.

I have been doing it all my life, well till I got my A-Bolt in correct handed.

O Yea, NICE SHOTTY!!!

As far as the safety issue goes I keep mine in the ready to rack and shoot mode. My feed tube is loaded and the trigger was pulled before hand so as soon as it is picked up its a shuck and shoot

Picking mine up in a week or so. Came into the shop used, but in great condition. I like your setup, man. I'm adding that Mako foreend to mine and a KNOXX stock to save the ole lady some recoil pains since it'll be an HD gun i want her to practice with. I like a pistol grip stock on an HD shotgun. Not because it's tacti-cool, but it gives you a better grip on the gun. Standard stocks are fine, but I have always felt that I had more weapon control with a pistol grip.
