I found something that makes me wanna get a stamp

I've been researching SBR Mini 14's and Mini 30's trying to find out if there are gas system issues if I run a 13-13.5" barrel with a pinned break to make it legal. Well I found this, which is obviously under the length requirements, but its honestly got me considering an SBR stamp for the first time. FOr those of you who have done it, is it a hard process, and is it worth it to go through the hassle or should I just cut it, attach a brake and be done with it at 16.1" with a brake?

You only have an inch or so past the gas port. Seems like it would misbehave.

The LE SBR'rd Mini-14s I've seen are a little longer than that one picured there. The one in this pic is shorter than I've seen done. I had a Mini back in the day that I outfitted an M-14 style suppressor/front sight and it looked pretty slick.

I would worry about performance in both ballistics and gas system but if it will work then I say go for it. Adding a suppressor would be awesome!

Have you considered an NFA Trust? That would be the easiest route.

OP, I've been through the process three times.  Its a bit daunting at first but honestly, its not that hard.  There really isn't much more paperwork than your standard 4473.  The wait is the hardest part.  

If you want, I can send you fingerprint cards and a couple of form 1s or you can order them from the ATF site.  If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a shout and I will help out any way that I can.

If you order from the ATF, you need to order Form 1 (5320.1), Certificate of Compliance (5330.20) and fingerprint cards (FBI FD-258LE).  I would order at least 5 of everything.
