Picked Up My First Sig

When I went to the gunshow this weekend my first priority was to sell my spare M&P. After walking around the show for a couple of hours I found someone who was happy to give it a nice home. After the sale was concluded I walked around for awile to see what I could find.

I stumbled upon a dealer with a nice selection of Certified Pre-Owned Sigs. The dealer told me they were government turn-ins and that most were never issued or fired. I was naturally a little skeptical of the fact, but I picked one out and did a thorough inspection. Much to my surprise it was in prestine factory new condition. The accessories were all still shrink wrapped in the case.

Anyway so this doesn't get anymore longwinded I picked up a P229 .40 DA/SA with night sights for a mere $599 plus tax and background.

I went straight to the range and put about 120 rounds throught it.

My first impressions: It is the most accurate gun I have EVER shot. Also no malfunctions of any kind what so ever.

Now I currently own a SW1911, M&P 40c, and Glock 30sf, and have owned an XD service, and HK USP 45 Compact in the past. While I love and adore all the guns i just mentioned the Sig outshoots them all.

The DA/SA took some getting used too with the DA shots being a little squirrelly at first. But right out of the box I was shooting quarter sized groups at 15 yards which is never that easy for me to do.

My ONLY complaint so far is that the grips that came on the gun are a little loose fitting on the left side right where my right thumb knuckle sits on the rear of the gun (where the beavertail would be on a 1911). As a result after 120 rounds the grip had managed to pinch my skin enough times to remove some skin.

I plan to fix this as soon as possible with a nice pair of Walnut grips.

Does anyone know of a decent place to get some grips?

I bought my first which was a P226 9mm about a month ago and feel the same way. I love the gun and it is amazingly accurate.

i got to hold a SIG today and it felt good the P229 was a little heavy to me but the P250 felt just about right. if SIGs weren't so pricey i would love to owen one

The Nill Grip is a great grip for your great Sig. They are not cheap but are very highly regarded by many Sig owners. Enjoy your Sig. They are addictive.

I was there Saturday. I wasn't wearing a black shirt though. I was wearing a red hollister shirt carrying an M&P in a case. The case had a FOR SALE sign on it. I was surprised to see that there were not many M&P's at this show.

Congrats on your purchase. a 229 is one I do not have. I bought my first new-new gun in 1989--- a P226 and I still have it. Gotta love 'em.

I have a P220, a P229 in .40 (with a .357 sig barrel as well). and a P226 in 9mm. Never a problem with any of them. I recently changed my 229 grips to the Hogue wrap around. Made quite a difference in the feel.

Congrats, the 229 is my all time favorite. Looks like you made a good choice and at a good price. The CPOs are a deal. Don't worry too much about the grip fitment as some of the factory grips will fit poorly due to seam and mold lines. A light trim in certain areas may clean up the fitment a bit. As far as wood grips, http://www.topgunsupply.com sales a lot of Sig goodies and they'll have factory wood grips. Also, check out http://sigforum.com. A ton of good info there and some of us tngunowners roam there as well.

Picked up my first Sig last week. A P220 with the DAK trigger. Got a sweet deal on it. Haven't had the chance to try it at the range yet. The fit and finish is excellent.

MidwayUSA has all sorts of wood grips. Hogue is the primary producer for these.

I have a set of stippled rosewoods on my 226. Might want to note that the wood grips do make the grip a bit thicker.
