I tried a search to see if this thread existed previously and came up empty.

Has anyone besides me puchased a gun because you had ammo for one? I have done it several times, the last was an S&W Model 57, because I had 2 boxes of 41 mags that had been laying around for several years. Yeah, yeah I know I could just sell the ammo, but what fun is that?:D

I've bought a rifle to get a sling before. The rifle was $79, the sling was worth over a c-note, and the seller wouldn't sell just the sling.

Only a couple of times. I am getting ready to buy a couple. I bought a guy out and have ammo and no gun to shoot it.

I've been thinking of it myself. I sold my Mac10 SF a few months ago along with 1k rds of 45acp ammo. I was going thru gun room a few days ago and found 600rds of 45 I had forgot about. I am usually a revolver person but have been thinking a nice 1911 style would be desirable, at least to shoot up the extra ammo. I bought the ammo before the prices went sky high so I hate to sell it, so looks like I'm in the market for a steel auto to run this ammo.--MP

I've done it twice already this year, and looking to do it twice again soon. It's usually with surplus calibers. You see a good deal on recommended surplus ammo, snap some up, and then you need a rifle, right?

I've got a cheap 3-9 rim fire scope that came off my Remington 597 since I put a fixed Nikon ProStaff on it. Anyways, I could just sell the scope on eBay, but I'm toying around with the idea of buying a cheap .22 and putting the scope on it for my fiance to use.

I have bought several S&W revolvers with factory grips, sold the grips, put aftermarket or Houges back on the gun and resold the gun for at least what I paid for it or more. The collectors on the Smith-Wesson Forum will pay good money for those rough uncomfortable Target grips.

Buy a S&W M25, 22-4, or 625

Major, got to agree with Grimel, if your a revolver guy go with a 25 or 625. I have a 5" model 625 and it eats them leftover 45acps real well!

Hmmm, may have to try that. I've never used moon clips before. I've got some buddies that do and say that's the way to go. Might have to give it a try.--MP

Don't overlook the 22-4. It may have fixed sights, but the front blade is pinned in place and relatively easy to replace. With a selection of blades different ammo can be made to shoot to point of aim. It's the modern 1917 with the lanyard ring.

I'm a big bore revolver guy too! A 325 (scandium frame) 2.5" 45acp is next on my list. Then a 22-4 Thunder Ranch Special. Then a 625 ...

I need both a .45acp revolver and a .357mag revolver, perhaps even a 9mm revolver if I can find one... and it's exactly for the reason stated. Those are the calibers I have, and I don't really want to add any more.
