Henry H001 Rear Sight Saga

I recently bought a used Henry H001. It was missing the rear sight, but the price was right and I never imagined I would have any difficulty in finding a new one. I called Henry because they have great customer service, and they were very helpful. They said they would send a new one right away free of charge. When I got the rear sight, it was way too small to fit the slot. I called Henry again and they said I would need one of the wider, old style rear sights. They sent one right out and the paperwork that came with it said that it was the wide, older style sight. It was the same as the first. I tried one more time with the same result. Does anybody know where I can get a replacement that will fit this rifle, or should I give up and put a scope on it? Thanks in advance. Edited by Tennessean

Why don't you see if you can send the rifle to Henry to be fixed?

Thanks for the advice. It would cost too much to ship it back to them, and I guess the big boss would be the guy to go to, but their website says he's unavailable until April, not that I'm in any great hurry. Tom Klotz is the guy I had been speaking with, and he seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. At this point, I feel like I'm badgering Henry, and I hate to go back to them again, especially for a rifle I bought used. I wouldn't mind buying an aftermarket site, but I haven't found any cut to that width.

Thanks for the link, mhm2a. Were you able to use the factory front sight with the rail mounted peep? Edited by Tennessean

On my Marlin I was able to retain the front sight using the lo pro skinner sight. The receiver mounted Henry sight is taller and may be able to use the front sight but I would anticipate having to add a taller front sight. If you drill and tap for the lo pro I think you could get away with the factory front sight blade. I am not sure there is enough clearance between the receiver cover and the inner workings of the rifle but I plan to look soon. Below is a good resource of Henry info:

Update. After failing one more time to get a rear sight from Henry (if anyone needs a rear sight with a 3/8" dovetail, let me know), I decided to get a Skinner Rimfire Peep, which mounts on the receiver groove. Unfortunately, the groove on the receiver is too small to secure the sight to it. Rear sights are over-rated anyway, right? Edited by Tennessean

I talked to Skinner, and they sent a peep sight with a smaller groove. It fits perfectly. I'll probably have to get a taller front sight, but I'm excited just to have a rear sight. I highly recommend Skinner Sights. They have great products and customer service.
