So Michele O presented the Oscar for best Picture?

Recommended Posts

No one had a problem with Palin, Plain's kid or McCain's kids using their status to boost their celebrity.

I'll keep complaining about the president's policies, unconstitutional wars/military usage, and our nations budget by myself.... whilst y'all continue to bitch about Mrs. O's new tax payer haircut and dress.

I find it very discomforting the use of the military as backdrops.

And...., couldn't help but notice a surprising lack of combat decorations on those service members - - - Odd.

Nothing makes me feel better than turning on The Pentagon Channel and seeing some E-4 who has spent their entire military career in the Pentagon AV room having a stack of ribbons greater than mine, and I have one or two ribbons. The Army awards and decorations system has been designed to make POGs feel better about not being in the infantry, IMO.

I think they were all Navy, not sure. That said I agree about the POG's, reminds me of the new (Insert favorite game system) award.

Oh, well in that case they'd all look like Mexican generals after their first float.

6.3 million in tax payer dollars went toward the making of Argo. I'll bitch about the Wookie presenting the Oscar if I so choose. If it elevates me to whiner status - fine by me.

I checked this. It is wrong.

Argo received a "California film tax credit" of 6.4 million. That means that your tax dollars did not fund Argo.

It was a Joint Operation.

Army, Navy, USMC, Air Force.  They are in what we in the Army call, Mess Dress uniforms.

I have found out that these officers had been detailed as senior escorts to a dinner given by the WH for the State Governors who where in DC for a conference.

When I was in the Pentagon, we called this "Potted Plant Duty."

I'm sure the duty was over and they were asked if there would be any volunteers who would like to meet with the FLOTUS.  You would be surprised how many young service members love the Obamas - - - they have no idea what right looks like.  :ugh:

Aside from the "lighten up Francis" thoughts in my head, I will go with the alternative thought:

The First Lady was not at the Oscars, but at the White House.   She gave out the award for Best Picture to an Anti-Iran movie.  And you guys miss the political undertone?  Did you guys miss the intent here?

IMHO, based on my poli sci degree, this was not unintentional. This was set on purpose. It was to send a message.

Based on your degree, what as the message? :D

I missed out on the first lady commie's delivery. I'm kinda glad I missed out.

She wasn't there in person.  They just put her on for a brief moment to say who won best picture.  They asked her to do it, it wasn't like she lobbied for it.  I think we have bigger things to worry about than the first lady announcing who won the best picture.

These types of threads just make us look like a bunch of 10 year old's who had a ball taken away.  I don't like his policies anymore than you do, but these types of comments just make us look like a bunch of whiny losers.

If she flew out there on our dime this would be a big deal. She did not so this is not even worth a mention.

I hope you are correct, and if you are it makes the message that much more demeaning to the Iranians, since she is a woman.

I'm not sure if this is still the case, but for a while the PAO for the Navy's 5th fleet out of Bahrain was a female, so when all that stuff was going on regarding the Iranians threatening to close off the Strait of Hormuz she was the one issuing public statements which defamed their naval forces and promised to blow their ships out of the water. Some of those releases were very strongly worded, and I don't think it was a mistake putting a female in that position. It adds a great deal of insult on top of insult for them to have a woman talk to them that way.

@ Mike.357 - Perhaps.

I will concede on the cost factor. If California wants to waste their people's tax money on movies it is no skin off my behind.

Her gown was priced at retail for 8900.00  I'll assume ( we know how assuming works) Barry paid for it and told her to buy one in every color.

No, she didn't fly out there, she was at the White House at a formal dinner for the service men and women standing behind her. Some, if you'll notice in a few of the different screen shots, don't look real pleased. I could be reading more into the dour looks than the actual intent.

Harvey Weinstein, the big time Hollywood producer and Obama ass kisser asked her to do it 2 weeks ago. She should have declined, but being a media whore...

There is no conspiracy or message. PricewaterhouseCooper's keeps the academy votes under tight secrecy and security and has not had a breech in security for the 76 years they have been counting the votes. Until the envelopes are opened nobody, aside from PwC accountants, knows who won. The last day to vote was the 19th of February, far past when the FLOATUS was asked to be a presenter. However, this is the first year that electronic voting was made available to all members of the academy by a company called Everyone Counts, Inc. You may make your own suppositions.

Just to be fair, are we wasting the TN taxpayers money by giving tax breaks to Nissan, Amazon, VW and many other companies that bring jobs to TN?  I can guarantee the tax breaks they get are worth well more than 6.5 million.  In fact, we give tax breaks to film and television production companies as well.  I guess we are just as bad as California.

If you are against the tax breaks, I guess you are against employing a lot of Tennesseans.  Which is worse?

There wouldn't be a major corporation in Memphis if it weren't for tax breaks. Not long ago, we were throwing tax breaks at Craig Brewer to shoot the remake of "Footloose" here.

No. I am not against tax breaks. If a state is going to offer a corporation like Nissan, Amazon or VW etc., an incentive in the form of tax breaks to move to TN or any other state, and the corporation in turn provides long term, permanent employment for people - great. Making a movie is a temp job. Are the film and television  production companies based in the state of TN given a tax break or are the tax breaks reserved for outside production companies who decide to film here?
