My neighbor went to the gun auction yesterday and bought a Tanfoglio Witness 10 mm semi-auto pistol. It looks to be in real nice condition. He asked me what I thought about it but I have never heard of the brand. Does anyone have any knowledge about this weapon?

I like them, good bang for your buck from what i understand they are CZ clones.

They used to be sold as the EAA Witness because they are imported/rebranded by European American Armory.  I had a 45 compact several years ago.  It shot fine and I never had any issues with it.

Probably the best 10mm semi-auto out there.  Very rugged, decent trigger, and reliable.  It was designed to take the original 10mm loads which are about 10-20% more powerful than today's factory loads.

I have heard that some pistols from the '90's had light recoil springs which caused cracked slides with heavy loads.  I usually replace all springs in a used pistol anyway.  So, if it was mine, I would just order a Wolff Spring kit with a 20lb recoil spring and never give it another thought.

We're going to shoot it today. I'm wondering if I should try to trade for it?  Does anyone know what they are worth?

On Gunbroker there are 21 pistols, but no 10mm.  Price ranges appear to be in the $500-$1000 price range, but zero bids.

There is one on Armslist in Minneapolis, Minn. its a 10mm model, @ $625.  http://www.armslist.com/posts/1129692/minneapolis-minnesota-handguns-for-sale--eaa-tanfoglio-witness-elite-match-pistol-10mm-15-rd-nib

Hope that gives you some market info.

at this time the price of any gun is hard to get.  it is worth what the buyer is willing to give for it.  one thing i would look at  is the price of a new glock 20.  i would not give more than what a glock 20 is going for.

I agree...looking under every name I could think of I couldn't find a listing for it anywhere in the current BB so very difficult to place a real value on it but yes, going by what used G20 normally goes for in the same condition is probably the best guide.

I have owned several EAA Witness and never had a single problem. They are also very accurate. I would have zero issue buying one in 9mm. I would really like to find one in 38 Super for a reasonable amount of money so I can build a modern gun in 7.62x25 Tokarev.

Dangit, now I am going to have to start looking for one.

Thanks for info Dolomite. I checked serial numbers and we're good. It wasn't part of the recall. This one was produced after recall. We inspected it closely, cleaned it and shot it. It shot great! I was very pleased on how it performed. It feels good in the hand, good fit. We put a little over 50 rounds through it and not a single issue. It has a nice kick and shot accurately. I don't know, I may have to try and trade for it, lol. But I think he liked it as much as I did.

I have  a Baby Eagle/ Jericho, which was based on Tanfoglio parts originally. They are commonly well thought of CZ Clones.

The rest of the world clones CZs the way the US clones 1911s.

This is the same platfrom that the "BABY" Eagle and the Jericho is on.  I have no experience with the EAA/Tanfoglio but the eagles are built like a brick $hit house and i have owned a jericho and b eagle 2.  No complaints with the guns at all.  As far as worth i would say 450-525 range depending on condition.  Usually that platform goes from 350-500 used depending on the caliber.

we have one of the cheaper 9mm models and it is great.  I wish I had throw-away money to get their single action competition model.  Highly recommend them, and they get a "for the money" seal of approval and beyond that, they get a high quality seal of approval as well.
