Ok. I made a knucklehead error. Never in my life have I seen or heard of this.

While field stripping my G19 I was putting the slide back on. In the process it seemed to get "jammed" and wouldn't go on all the way. The trigger reset at this time. And...the guide rod sprung forward through the front of the gun.

So now, here I am with the slide halfway on and the guide rod sticking out the front. No way to remove the slide or put it all the way back on.

I dry fired her and the slide shot forward and fell off. I put her back together with no more problems.

Has anyone else ever had this happen? Is it common? Should I worry?

Thanks in advance.

Your probably fine. Your not the first one to do that. Just do a function check and test fire next time you can. As long as the striker drops you should be good.

Yeah it's fine. The recoil spring probably slipped off while you were putting the slid back, causing the jam to start with. If it strikes, and the slide racks, you're fine.

My number one rule.  Never do gun work while drinking cheap red wine:)

If you're drinking the good stuff, you're fine, right?

Yep it happened to me just last week on my Sigma 9mm. Took me about 20 minutes to get it back apart. The recoil spring popped out and had it all jammed up. Put it back together and worked fine.

Thanks guys. Was worried for a sec. Took her out and fired at the range. All went well (except the price to spend an hour at the range).
