Hello all!  I'm originally from Louisville, KY.  I moved to TN to attend MTSU, then moved to Connecticut for work a few years ago.  My wife and I are planning on moving back to the Nashville area to be closer to family at the end of the year.  I have been into guns now for a little over a year, and a gun owner for about 10 months.  I wanted to join and get an idea of the gun culture in the Nashville area.  As anti-gun as CT is these days, I have to say that the local gun community has been excellent.  I am very active in the community both online and in person, we try to have a meet and great once every month or two on our main shooting forum.

I have found that one of my favorite hobbies are plate shooting events, how is Nashville for Competitive shooting events?  Anything major legally going on?  (we are having major threats to our gun rights here)  Also, it appears that this is the local forum with the most traffic, is that correct?

Hello all!  I'm originally from Louisville, KY.

You're forgiven.

I moved to TN to attend MTSU,

Good choice.

then moved to Connecticut for work a few years ago.

What were you thinking?

My wife and I are planning on moving back to the Nashville area to be closer to family at the end of the year.

Another good choice. Hurry before CT makes you destroy your guns.

Also, it appears that this is the local forum with the most traffic, is that correct?

The most and the best.

Welcome aboard. I grew up in CT, got my carry permit there when I was 23 (I'm now 57). Even back then, it took a year to get done. I migrated to TN in '94, much better attitude here, although Nashville proper is more liberal than other parts of the state. No legislative threats to ownership here, and even some pushback from sherriff's departments and the state government regarding any federal efforts at limitations. Not aware of regular competitive events, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. You shooting handgun or long gun or both?

Wow, a year is pretty crazy.  We have some decent organizations that are helping fight delays in the processing now.  My permit took 12 weeks, which is a little above average.  The shortest wait I have heard of was 3 weeks, and the longest (that did not have to appeal) was about 6 months.  The pushback against the potentional federal laws makes me happy, we have state senators and mayors hell-bent on making our laws even tougher than NY's latest.

I shoot both pistol and long-gun, but so far only pistol competitively.  I'm hoping to make my first rimfire rifle shoot tomorrow night.

Welcome to TGO. We would love for you to come visit us at Misic City Tactical Shooters when you get here.

Excellent!  I will definitely come and check you guys out.  I haven't gotten a chance to shoot IDPA yet, but I've done a couple similar style combat shoots.  It looks like fun!

I shot my first rifle (rimfire) plate shoot last night and won "B" class, it was a blast!

Welcome from a Connecticut native!

Sadly in my 26 years of living in CT, my interest in guns was more or less squashed by the ignorance of CT antis. In highschool I was even subjected to watching Michael Moore movies.

Anyways I moved to Tennessee two years ago and finally took up shooting a year ago. Lets say, its pretty free here. Could be, maybe better? But when I go from needing a permit to look at a handgun in CT to not needing a permit to BUY one in TN... I hope that helps any questions you might have.

It is not without reason that I call Tennessee "The promised land".

Welcome, i have friends up north in CT, NJ and NY and all they talk about besides guns is moving down south to these free-er gun states.

Welcome!  I lived in the Western NY for a year and the People's Republic of CT for a couple.  Couldn't get out of there fast enough!  CT was only slightly better than NY as far as gun laws.  In NY you had to possess a permit in order to even touch a firearm in a store.  In CT you had to have a permit in order to take your firearm out of the house to the range.  The local gun-owner community in CT is very tight, for sure.  Could be because they are socially the 'exceptions' rather than the 'rule.'

I have a friend from Mass that moved down last year, he has told me some crazy stories. Don't worry, we are passing more laws to protect gun rights instead of infringe them.

We just became a one feature "assault weapon" ban state (pistols qualify too!) with 100+ guns banned by name.  With full registration.  10 round mag limit, with registration of "LCMs".  No transfers of "assault weapons".  And many more!
