They are currently selling ccu mini mags for $15.99 per 100 round box. Whats the deal? DId they buy this at a high markuo from somebody or are they just raising the prices because they can?

Yeah Coal Creek isn't a place to go for bargain basement prices on anything but especially ammo. I don't mind they're shop an like a couple do the guys who work there but ammo has always been higher there.

I'd say they bought them at an inflated price and mark up is standard. But it could also be a markup to keep some supply in stock, it's not always a money making ploy. If demand goes through the roof the only way to keep some supply is to raise the price.

CCA has always been overpriced. At least they couple it with subpar service.

Ever since the new owner took over I think things have been getting much better. And the last two guns I bought there I bargained down to below online prices even with sales tax. Ya gotta just be willing to haggle. I'd never pay that much for .22s though. I'm trying to wait it out.

I hope that's the case. Maybe I just stop by at the wrong times.

It is only gouging when you have no choice but to buy at inflated prices...for instance, selling water to a man dying of thirst.  If market prices rise to a certain level and they sell at that level, that is not gouging.  Sorry, just a peeve of mine.  Words have meaning and we must strive to preserve the correct definitions.

i was in there the other day and asked about some ammo pricing.  Box of 50 9mm FMJ was going for $24.99.

I thought that was pretty high considering before all this "mess" started their prices for a box of 50 was usually around $15.99.

Still that is a far cry from the $10~$12 I could get it for at Walmart or Academy.

But, alas, I am about to break down and buy some because I want to shoot and I can't find any 9mm locally in town.

on another note, I know certain caliber of ammo is scarce right now, and maybe some prices are inflated, but at Gander Mtn the other day they had plenty of .45ACP FMJ and the price was still $27.99. . .I think that is the same as before this "mess".  So why is .45acp still somewhat available, but 9mm, .22 and several other are either gone or overinflated?  strange, I thought.

Popularity. 9mm and .22 are notoriously the cheapest so more people have guns in those calibers than .45, which has been around $20 per 50 FMJ for a while pre panic.

Well at least they have some .22.   You can't find it at Walmart or Academy.  I'm sure they paid more than usual for it, and have to mark it up accordingly.   CCA has new owners now.  Lighting is much better on the range.  The staff is knowledgable, and they the place is generally packed.  These are tough times for everyone in the gun industry with low inventory.  I'm not sure how a company stays in business if you don't have product to sell, let alone the political attacks on the industry.  So a lot to consider before you accuse someone of gouging.  If times get even worse, just see if your neighborhood Walmart doesn't jump ship, just like Dick's, Cheaper than Dirt , etc.

It's a free market. No such thing as price gouging unless they are cooperating with everyone else in the market to fix and then raise prices. This is simply supply and demand in effect. Nothing to see here folks. Move it along.

This.

Did schools stop teaching basic economics? If a store's rent is $1000 and you normally charge $10 a box for widgets, you need to sell 100 boxes of widgets to cover rent. When supplies of widgets dry up and you can only find 50 boxes to sell, what should you charge to keep your doors open?

Yeah, they don't teach economics anymore.  But not picking on the OP.

My family used to run a gas station...and OH MY GOD what would happen when the price surges hit.  People have no understanding of "replacement costs".  "But, but, you already paid for the gas that is in the ground...you can't raise prices on it because that is gouging!"  They didn't understand that if we didn't raise prices on it, there would be no more after what was in the ground was gone.
