I found out recently that Jim Hammond the Hamilton County sherriff signed on with more than 300 others against new gun control laws so I sent him a thank you letter last night and received a positive reply.

Jim,

I just wanted to say thank you for joining the list of sheriff's that are against infringements of our 2nd amendment rights. I am a TN handgun permit holder and take my safety seriously, some of the legislation's being proposed are not only unconstitutional but would severely limit my ability to protect myself and family.

My home protection tool is an ar-15, your officers utilize it for the same reason I do, it is light weight low recoil and you have 30 rounds at your disposal. I pray I never have to use it, but I train and prepare for the worst. With home invasions on the rise and reports of up to 3 armed assailants I believe an AR-15 is my best chance of survival until officers arrive, high stress situations in the dark I want the capacity to repel whatever threats I may encounter. Same with the capacity of my handgun.


I am proud and honored that we have a sheriff that takes his oath seriously.

Daniel, thank you for email and kind remarks. You can be assured that 2nd Amendment rights are important to me as your Sheriff and as a fellow citizen. Sir Robert Peel the father of modern policing said it best - "The people are the police and the police are the people." We need each other to maintain the peace.
