My car tags are soon to expire (end of August I think) and I was wanting to get one of those new NRA tags I seen posted on here. Are they available in TN for purchase yet?

Thanks in advance.

Brian:

Last word was that the NRA is developing some preliminary plate designs, and not even those are final yet.

Will still be "a while" before they are available to us.

The figure is 1,000.

David there also has to be a certain number of orders for them, I forget the figure, before printing if I recall. So you still may be able to order I should recall but can't at the moment how that all works.

So, do I need to 'preorder' my tag when I go renew or what?

I guess I'll call the county clerk and ask... although the old women working there will probably ask 'what is the NRA?'... LOL

you can check to see if the NRA plate is available here:

http://www.tennessee.gov/revenue/vehicle/licenseplates/specialty.htm

it doesn't look like it is though.

the pre order deal is to get the plate available in the first place.

according top the rules, and organization that wants to have a specialty plate offered in Tennessee and reaches the requirements must be able to show that there is enough interest in the plate from the state's residents in order for the DMV to authorize production of the plate. you don't pre-order with the state, you pre order with the organization that is trying to get the plates authorized. you don't have to pay any money, and it doesn't guarantee that you'll recieve one, it just allows the organization to prove to the state that there is enough interest from the residents to justify creating another specialty plate.

me personally, I have SCV plates for my car.

Let me know what you find out.

I called the Carter County Clerk today and as I suspected she had no knowledge of the plate or when/if it would be available.

Guess I'll keep watching the NRA site for more details.
