Thoughts on M&P Shield in 40?

Good luck, the Shields have been hot ticket items even before the panic-buy started... :panic:  

 

I haven't seen any in stock anywhere. There was an M&P40c in stock at Academy in Hixson earlier this week. (I know because I looked at it but bought the M&P40 instead :D )

List of people waiting on one is 40 + at Hero Gear, Winchester. I was there today and the only one in the store was mine. It's a hot little pistol, like SALK, I was lucky to get one before all this crazyness.

I got extremely lucky and found one the day after Christmas at Academy for $399. I liked it but decided to stick with j frames. I sold the Shield for what I had in it to a good home. They are great shooting guns and I probably should have held onto it.

How do they handle the "snap" of .40 vs a M&P40c or G27? My SW990Lc has a lot of kick. Not so much I dislike it, but I would expect the smaller pistol to be worse.

I don't know how S&W did it but the .40 Shield had less recoil than most .40 fullsize pistols. I have a LCP that has a lot more snap than a Shield.

The Shield is truly a magical pistol.  I know the 9mm version shoots like a full-size.  It looks big, but it's not. Very manageable and accurate.

I agree, I had a m&p 40c and it had a lot more "snap" than my shield.

There was a shield in 9 at blue ridge in gray tn the other day.  I checked it out -- looked solid and felt good also

I bought a 9mm version last week at a lgs here in Memphis. They didn't have any in .40 S&W at the time. I've put 150 rounds through mine and I love it. I've never owned a S&W pistol before (revolvers, but never semi's). This is the pistol I had been hoping/waiting Glock would get off their duffs and make. Smooth shooting, and extremely easy to carry. I've always been a Glock guy, but now I'm looking at some of the other M&P pistols...

 

Needless to say, add me to the host of folks who really like this pistol.

The only disappointment in the Shield was I found it was only a fraction of an amount more concealable than a Baby Glock. The Shield is actually taller.

The M&P Shield controls the Recoil of the .40 very well. Definetly alot better than the G27. The grip angle an being able to get a better grip makes it more controllable.

Also the snap from the 9mm to the .40 is not bad either.I can tell you by owning a G27 ,G26 and Shield 40.

It is just not as wide ( thick) as a glock. I have a glock23 as well as the Shield 9mm. Like carrying the shield a lot better. I hardly know it is there.

 

Noticed very little recoil on the shield 9mm, GF liked the shield better than the glock, but she ended up getting a Walther p380 instead.

I can't tell much of a difference either in the same Glock in 9 or .40. The shield in .40 is a lot milder than a Glock 26, maybe even more suttle than a G19.

Thanks for all the recommendations! It was hard to see everyone raving about this little critter without being able to chime in! 

 

But, good news... I might have a lead on one not too far away, will find out details later on this week. I'll keep you guys posted on how things develop.

It is just not as wide ( thick) as a glock.

It is and on paper it shows. However, putting a baby Glock in my pocket and then the Shield, I could not really notice a difference. OWB I still had a hard time noticing a difference if I partially unloaded the baby Glock. The Shield shoots a lot better and feels better than a Glock. Ultimately the Shield not be small enough and the safety is what turned me away from keeping it. That and my personal love for j frame revolvers.

Do they all come with a safety?  I guess I thought it was like the regular M&Ps where it was optional.

All Shields have safety.

I have owned G27,G26 and both Shields. 40cal shield for the win!

I currently owne the Shield in 9mm and 40cal.
