a new little brother to my G23; a P3AT...

A couple weeks ago I stopped in to eastside gun shop, and the Rabbi was kind enough to sell me a new kel tec p3at. I have not spent enough time on this site to figure out how to post pics, but it has a green handle and blued steel slide. A trip to the range proved that this little gun had some snap and was fun to shoot. It made my glock feel like a huge gun. I have had 3 trips to the range and the little gun shoots very well. I practice mostly @ 15' and can keep the groupings respectable. I just got some buffalo bore ammo, the 100gr cast rounds and some 90gr gold dot, both +p. I shot about 8 rounds of these and the snappy little pistol turns into a cannon, at least as my hand is concerned. all and all today i shot about 40 rds from the p3at. Maybe i am deranged but i really find the little gun fun to shoot, but then shooting is just fun. Needless say, the way it fits in the pocket is great :).

Thanks Bill for bringing alittle Shalom in the Hood!

Does anyone have any thoughts on the "life" of the Keltec? ie, how many rounds. I want to stay proficient with it @ the range. I don't plan on shooting many +p, but plan on carring with this type of round.

I don't really know about the life of the P3AT. I know Seecamp has claimed a life of 2000 rounds for their 380, but seem to have backed off of that.

Realistically, I don't think you will run up against that problem. I'd guess that a few rounds here or there will keep you sufficiently proficient for the purpose of the gun.

I would not try to be proficient with a p3at at the range. It is not an accurate gun at longer distances. And such accuracy is not needed. The purpose of the p3at is to give you an edge against a bad guy in an up close situation. It is a back up gun for LEOs, and a personal defense gun for the rest of us. I believe in the phrase: shoot a little, carry a lot, as far as the p3at is concerned. It is just not designed for being shot a lot.

I read somewhere that the life of a P3AT was 2 or 3 thousand rounds or some such number. It's definitely not a range gun. I only shot mine every now and then to keep a feel for it, but nothing like any of my other guns.

thanks and will do. off the the range now, my buddy has a j frame .38 i want to try, and I am sure he wants to try the new p3at. I think i will heed the advice given and keep the round count low at the range for the little gun. good thing for the g23.
