My son the terrorist.

Evidently my 2nd grade son had to sit in the principals office this morning for making "terrorist threats". His threat? Evidently, he told one of his friends that when he gets his own gun he wanted them to go shooting together.
However, the report simply states he was sent to the office for making "terrorist threats". So now he will forever have a record that he threatened someone. Really getting to the end of my rope.
I signed the note and the started my objection of 1-convicting my son of criminal activity without a mention of his objection or clarification and 2-vilifying my son for something that in our family is normal and a family topic and activity. I also added several statements about first and second amendment rights the constitution and the role of teachers, police, and parents.
I wasn't happy! :-P Edited by Smith

We had to go through something similar, seems a classmate of my daughter said "I don't like you."

So now, the child has been labeled a bully, and all the parents were pulled together to find a solution.

They staff looked at me like I was insane when I said "Let them be kids and grow up."

Things are a little too touchy feeling anymore.

Sad thing is he's now afraid to draw his super hero pictures because he thinks he'll get suspended. One of his other friends got sent to the office for pretending he had a light saber. He said, "Dad, its just silly. Don't they know that boys like to pretend they have swords and guns. Girls don't like them but we do." Trying to fundamentally change our boys to girls and our rights to wrongs. Edited by Smith

"Let them be kids and grow up."

Very true, and very important point that the education system will not let kids learn these days. So obviously you didnt take your pill today ;).

These days more is being done to counter bullies than in the past. some would say the schools go a little too far in preventing future bullies. Nobody wants another "revenge" massacre. But for the OP, them labeling your son as a "potential Terrorist" for simply stating he wanted to go shooting later in life was just stupid.

Sometimes i think these teachers and administrators have lost their freaking minds.

Home school, folks.

Yep. Outside a couple of these aggravating instances they go to a real good public Montessori school. It only goes through the 4th grade and then they are home. Just got our oldest squared away for home school.

It's extreme liberal thinking, "Progressive" thinking as they attempt to disguise it. In reality it's all about controlling society. Orwell had it nailed, just put the wrong year on the title of his book.

A friend of mine was called by his son's school about 10 years ago because they said his son "had a knife". It turned out to be nail clippers with the file accessory. Society and common sense are in great distress.

This. Get them away from the public schools and all of the liberal crap that comes along with them.

+1

I was homeschooled 1st-12th. Even tho I didn't learn all the liberal, socialist, and godless things they teach in public schools for the most part today, I received a well-rounded education and have since completed a bachelors degree as well as a masters degree.

To me not having to learn all the government imposed philosophy, has actually helped me in these days to discern what is right and what is bogus. When you know the truth and it is all you know, you quickly recognize a lie.

zero tolerance is zero common sense.

As much as I disagree with that even going on the "permanent record"

Serious, records like this should not follow someone past 18 at the very worst.

What about old kids around 16 or so doing stuff and getting their records either sealed or expunged

The way things are now, one kid could just make up crap about another and get them in trouble, seems there is no defense..  Guilty with out trial, guilty until proven innocent.

Home school, folks.

Serious consideration will be made when that time comes, to send them to my in-laws in the Philippines to go to school. Not only do they actually learn stuff, this kind of BS doesn't exist there

We have our daughter prepared for home school starting next year.  She is 6, so it gives us time to really get in the swing of it.  It's not an easy task living on a single income at the bottom end of the middle class, but she is worth it.  It's like I told my wife, either stay home raise and educate her or let the school do it and get after school care.  I left the choice up to my wife, and she came to the conclusion that if a child spends most of their waking hours away from the parents then the parents are not the ones raising the child.

I had everyday experiences with these clueless sh** for brains principals, and liberal propaganda union loving teachers for thirty years. They threw common sense out the school windows over 40 years ago. Of course the liberalism malady afflicted the politicians, and just about every important authoritarian institution about the same time. This country has shot it's wad when it comes to having any leader with rational and common sense. I'm afraid we will be scratching and shaking our heads the rest of our lives reading, and hearing about the stupidity these liberal commie a** holes will be committing daily. This country has made its bed hard, and it's gonna stay hard until the people realize they're gonna have to take back their communities, and country from these commie bas***ds. Edited by ThePunisher

This is why our children will be homeschooled.  Whether that be from their mother or their grandmother (who was a teacher for many years)

Today's school system is a tragedy :(

I really wish I had something constructive to add, but it's just so stupid that I can't think straight.

I guess all that I can say is....

Home school is the only safe, reasonable, solution to the liberal indoctrination mills that we have today.

I just wonder how long it will be until some PHD'd idiot decides that home schooling doesn't prepare children to function in their world because thay haven't learned to socialize with the rest of the so-called intelligent, politically correct world?

And  Smith, I hate to say it, but I've been waiting to hear something stupid like this since I first heard about your kids. Knowing you even as little as I do, I knew it was only a matter of time before the children of a good man would have to contend with this.

Ok I'm a teacher so.... To be real, all I've read in this thread is negative opinion about liberal this and that. How is math liberal? How is music liberal? How is dissecting a freakin frog liberal? Someone give me facts please instead of opinion. I've never heard of anyone get in trouble for playing with light sabers or pretend army or anything else that normal kids do.

And, these s$&@ for brain principals and teachers spend a great amount of their lives not only raising our kids but also studying how to do it better!!! I've spent probably more time and research into being a better teacher than many have EVER done at their jobs. Come work in my world someday. See kids that come to school because they can have lunch. Try working 16 hour days for months on end. Think of the coaches at your high school. You think they didn't give it their all??

I take total offense to people that make statements and have no fu$&!&g idea what really goes on at a public school. How many of you have spent ANY time at all in your kids classes??

And to the original poster. Yea, that is bull$$&t. I'd be mad too!!!

Kids will draw superheroes. My 7 year old does it every day. At school and at home. Edited by LowBb

When my kids were younger, I went to their school(s) reasonably often. Went to PTO, etc. My kids are older, and it changed drastically as they were approaching their last years. They would come home and tell me all they did was watch movies today while the teacher read magazines... or coach subbed, and did nothing but talk about sports... and that would be in History class... which CAN be slanted and rewritten.

You sound like a good teacher; the kind there should be more of. Kudos to you.

Thanks man. I can honestly say ther are incredible teachers. I'm a band director in an inner city school and I spend more time with high school students than there parents do. They drop them off at school and leave them there. We give them tons of work to do, teach the boys manners and how to treat women and teach the girls to respect themselves and that they don't need a man to be complete. If that's liberal than I'm guilty as hell. I just got home after spending 13 hours working with my band kids at school and then taking others to a special county band contest where we pushed them harder than they have EVER been pushed. Most teachers strive to be great. There is so much pressure to be good, more than people know. Come look at our evaluation criteria and you'll see. Sure there are some bad teachers. But there are bad lawyers and doctors etc.

My second day on the job a little sophomore girl comes to me and says her moms boyfriend is raping her. She came to me because she trusted me. She was a band kid and had just gone through summer camp. We blew the case open. There are many many more stories where that came from. Like the kid that told me he saw his mom get her chest blown away from a drug dealer with a gun.

Homeschooling is a great thing. However until people are ready to spend more time than just dropping off their kids at school and maybe picking them up, then.........

Wow. It's like listening to antis talk about banning guns because of a very small percentage of crazies who shoot innocent people. You hear one or two stories about a bad teacher and it's "BAN SCHOOLS!." F-ing priceless.

Where I learned to debate was in a social studies class in high school. I had a flaming hippie liberal teacher who, amongst other things, was charged with teaching us history. His opinions never influenced mine, but I learned how to debate against a liberal and was even more solidified in my beliefs. Maybe other students had their minds warped by this lib, but that would be because they were weak minded and needed their opinions dictated to them, as they couldn't develop them on their own.

That is a symptom of crappy parenting, not a crappy teacher. Anyone who sends their kids to school with an empty mind with no ammunition to counter ridiculous liberal doctrine should not be surprised when their kid comes home spouting liberal garbage. If anything I want to expose my kids to liberal ideology, so they can process it with the mind of a skeptic, not the mind of drone. We're raising adults, not children.

Not all teachers are flaming lib-tards, just like not all gun owners are beer-swilling rednecks or criminals. Like everything else, it's a matter of perspective. We don't hear many good stories, just the ones were somebody did something they shouldn't.

One of my kids is grown and the other is in HS, so b/w the 2 of them they've had dozens of teachers over the years. I've only had issues with one or 2 of them. Admittedly, it was the same kind of issue the OP mentions.

1st day of school they made us come get my son's Star Wars backpack, b/c it had "weapons" (light sabers) depicted on it. I threw a fit, called them names...basically made an ass of myself for their stupid policy. Basically, I cemented in their minds exactly what kind of beer-swilling redneck I must be.
