I do. I put on my Rossi snub nose usually.

I have carried it at home but normally I just take it with me and lay it by what I am doing, for instance, I am sitting at the kitchen bar on laptop and G26 is laying by my mouse pad. If I go upstairs I carry it up there and lay it by what I am doing. If I go outside at the picnic table or on the back patio I have my G with me. So I sorta carry, just not in holster on my person necessarily.

I keep a .45 on my hip whenever I'm home. I swap it out for my carry gun if I leave.

when i get up and get dressed in the morning, there is always one in my pocket. lately its been a P3AT. i rarely belt carry (either IWB or OWB) one while i'm at home, but i have done that in the past as well. i also have a few scatterguns within easy reach...IMHO thats what a handgun is for at home...to fight your way to the long guns

Haha yeah, forgot to mention I've got my Saiga 12 ready to rock and roll at a moments notice if need be. Nothin like 10 shells of 00 Buck coming out of the barrel as fast as you can pull the trigger to help deter any unwanted guests.

I even keep my Glock in a large Ziplock with me when I'm in the shower! After all, you can never be too prepared, right? :D;)

There's always one nearby... and I'm sometimes carrying, if I've just been out, or will be going out. But I don't holster up if I'll just be around the house.

There was a thread over on XDTalk some time ago about a guy asking if it would hurt his XD if he showered with it. Not only was he hilariously ridiculed, but the general consensus was that if you have to wear it in the shower, you have other issues. ;)

If I have just come in, I will leave my gun on. If I am just chilling at my house, it might not be on my hip, but it is definitely close. I also keep that Mossberg 590 with some 00 close as well.

Mine stays on my hip most all of the time. When I get up in the morning I put on a pair of sweat shorts and do 2 miles on the treadmill and I don't wear it then but it is in reach. After a shower it is on my hip.

I run around the house buck naked, which really limits my carry options.

Actually I have a friend who did this. Sort of 1911 on a rope. Of course he was in Vietnam at the time. Even there, it was nuts. Either your men would protect you or your 1911 wouldn't protect against frags. :leaving:

I don't want this to sound bitchy or know-it-all but this idea of wearing a handgun around the home seems....well paranoid. You may disregard that comment if you live in a neighborhood that has frequent break ins during the normal time you are home. Then again, you need to move.

Except for maybe LEOs, I'm probably as much a target as you will find - actually much more than the LEOs. I've done so much international drug work over the years that I would kill me, if in that business - if I thought I could. I just recently retired again for the zillionth time. But I might un-retire again.... As I have found out, you never know. 9-1-1 happens.

I have a listed phone number and published address. I do have some sensors around the place to tell me if someone is coming around. But I'm a techie who loves gadgets. The three dogs are really good alarms. If you worry about stuff, get a dog, as well as a gun. Really.

But I wouldn't think of packing a handgun around the house. One does need to be handy of course. I do sometimes have one immediately available if I come in from some outside activity. Old people forget to take off the heat.

So, unless you are an extreme target, like the spouse of a real nut-job or government triple-naught spy or something, you probably don't need a carried gun at home. But again, one should be handy and the doors should be locked.

I really don't see the harm in having one on you while at home. Overkill? Maybe. But my low income sees me living in not the best of areas, so in my mind its better safe than sorry. If it's not on me then it's within reach on the coffee table or on the desk.

There's no answer for "It Depends".

If I am outside at home, yes. If I am inside, sometimes. But there is always one nearby. Always.

At least three days a week. I'll let you guess which days. :leaving:

No harm I see unless it affects wife or kids. An attitude of siege often does. You have to use some common sense.

Don't go nutso.

It is almost always overkill unless you are a very obvious target. It just seems silly for most folks.

Living in the city, yes Memphis (moving not an option at this time), but any city, hard economy, less disposable income you are starting to see more strong arm robberies of houses that are occupied at the time whether it is daylight or night. You are not only seeing this in the big cities but the suburbs. The criminals can't rob from their own people, because they don't have anything either. We have seen in the news, most have been caught IIRC, but a group of guys kicking in doors, robbing people at gun point in these nice upscale suburbs of Memphis. I live in a area of Memphis that is realtivly crime free, but you don't have to go far to find it and I am not naive enough to let my guard down. My kids play outside when I am not out there. I do keep my eye on them. I think the biggest danger to my kids at this point is still a car driving down the street too fast and the ice cream man. When I hear that song, I am the first one out, I just don't trust a man driving an ice cream truck, especially one with a gold grill on his toof's.

I realize and understand that the odds of me and my family being attacked are low, even living in one of the most dangerous cities (a lot of the crime happens in the worst parts of the city), but I want to be prepared for the unthinkable. I carry insurance for things that are not likely to happen, I consider my handgun as another form of insurance.

Oh, I have a 9, 6, 4, and a 8 month old. The 9 and 6 have been to a firearms safety class designed for children, the 4 almost 5 has not and the 8 month old, well mamma wouldn't let him go!, so I can't and won't leave them laying anywhere.

I think I mentioned assessing your situation. By all means protect your family.

I purposely live in a semi-rural area. I'm 500 feet off of the main road. I worked for it.

Jobs are still available in the non-socialist city area. Please look for one where you don't feel you need to carry a handgun all of the time at home

Yes jobs are available, but the type of schools we chose, family, and the career I have chosen is not. So there is a trade off, what works for me, may not for the next guy. I usually carry, but if for some reason I don't, I don't get paranoid and run get it. A lot of the reason I have it on is because of the kids. I try to teach them what to do if they ever see one laying around, but hell, I have tried to teach them not to run in the house too, but they still have brain farts.
