For years I have been wanting to open a little shop out of my basement and sell and transfer fire arms. I found out today that it is legal to do this in my county, so I was wondering if anyone had some tips or info that would help me before I get started into this adventure.

Thanks,

Brent

From everything I have read it is absolutely worth the cost in regards to getting your license and setting up your business.

Talk to the ATF guy in your area. They will tell you what they want you to do to comply with regulations, zoning, etc. and since they are the ones that will be enforcing those regulations you can't get a better source of info.

Great ideas everyone keep them coming. I'm gonna talk to a local guy I know here in town that does it and pick his brain a little. I'm also in the process of getting a hold of the ATF agent in my area.

Thanks,

Brent

if you are very sure you are going to do it get a business license and tax I'd number before you start the paperwork. the 2 main things the ATF agent is going to want to know is "are there any zoning issues for running a business out of your home?" "are serious about running a business?" also if I were you I would do an incorporation. A friend of mine is a home-based FFL I looked into doing it but decided it wasn't for me at this time. They not care if you leave a million dollars in inventory laying around your living room they do not have a requirement for you having a safe (its smart to have one though lol).
