It is a disgrace.  There is outrage on their Facebook page.

At least they publicized it, unlike Joke Daniel's which tried to slip it in un-noticed.

I don't see what the big deal is. 99.999999% of people couldn't tell the difference on a bet. And if your only goal when drinking alcohol is to get drunk quickly you have a problem. And you can always refuse to buy Maker's Mark. It's a free (ok, it's only about 50% free) market. If enough people stop buying it they'll change it back. My guess is that you will have to live with it though.

For the .1111111% of us that know, it is a 100% proposition.

Why don't they keep the original % content & just double the price like everyone else?     Good thing I'm not much of a drinker or I'd need a drink right about now...

I've never tried Makers Mark & don't guess I'll try it now either.

Well.. boo hoo

You do know that "flavor" and "proof" are on a balance beam... right?

As proof increases, flavor drops. The problem is to balance the proof to maintain the flavor.

But, I don't believe telling everyone that you lowering the proof to increase supply is a good idea!

Has anyone discovered a way to blame this on Obama?

Well they have to pay a higher tax percent with a higher alcohol.  So with the lower proof it should be taxed less.  Perhaps they are really doing this to reduce their tax bill while selling more product to increase profits.  Maybe we can kinda blame that on the government and in turn blame Obama.

Kinda like Jack Daniels Clear Rye.  Best I can tell, it is legal moonshine that costs them less as they don't have to barrel it for years, they can bottle it direct, but they doubled the price.  I haven't even taken a sip of it for that reason.  (sure I would like a taste but I refuse.

BTW, the TV show moonshines, they have some really crazy prices.  The big thing about moonshine it should be cheaper then government bonded whiskey.

Moonshine is normally priced per gallon.

Makers Mark runs about how much a 5th(750ml)? $23 to $25?

That would put Makers Mark around $120 a gallon?

One thing to think about, some, not all, moonshine is better than bonded.

But, not many people would pay $120 a gallon for moonshine.

hmm, i thought moonshiners sold allot around 30/40 a gallon.  I could be very wrong but that is what I thought I had heard.

Never brought any direct.

Yeah, that was my point. Moonshine on average is selling for about half what store bought sells for.

The prices on "Moonshiners" would be to high in the real world.

But, many times you can't go by price to state it's quality. If it wasn't for the tax, store bought would be about half the price it is.

Most of the people I've known don't make it to make money. They want to be known for making high quality liquor.

I believe the liquor that's bought at a store will continue to go down in quality because of the control and also the competitive market.

Try some of the other small batch stuff. Much better. On the cheap I like Four Roses single barrel it's around 30 bucks.

Ding!  No big loss, there's much better stuff out there.

Not a big Whiskey drinker, finished off a 750mL the other night that I had bought around the first part of November.  Crown Royal is my liquor of choice, followed by Wild Turkey.  Whiskey makes me stupid though so I limit myself to 1-2 highballs when I do drink it.  Learning as I get older to savor and enjoy the good stuff instead of trying to polish off a handle of cheap stuff in a night.  Reminiscing about the things I did in college makes me think I must have been one bad SOB back then to drink the amounts that I did and still accomplish all that I did.  One Friday night like that today would but me in bed until the next Wednesday.

Same here. My wife & I don't drink often & we like to enjoy something with a smoother flavor when we do. Lately we've enjoyed some Capt.Morgan Private Stock. I always keep a bottle of Grand Marnier & Remy Martin 1738 in the house, but a bottle will last us months. I also have one bottle of rare Suisse La Bleue Clandestine & I haven't found the right time or occassion to open it. I may never.

It is mighty tasty for 129.  Had some a couple weeks back and I'll be getting a bottle on my next trip to the city.

Four Roses is a good one as well.  It and Wild Turkey are the only ones that use non GMO corn, from what I understand.  If I'm wrong on that, please let me know what other distillers do.

Due to customer response they have reversed their decesion.

"While we thought we were doing what's right, this is your brand - and you told us in large numbers to change our decision," the company said in a statement released today. "You spoke. We listened. And we're sincerely sorry we let you down."
