I stand corrected on severance pay, it is involuntary separated who get the severance, I had to do some research on that and you are correct on that. Most of the Soldiers I had in my last unit were yes being medically chaptered out. But Congress just last year did approve early retirement for All Armed Forces at the 15 year mark. The way it worked was they took the number of years you were away from 20 years and deducted 1% of of retirement pay, so if you got 45% of your base pay and got out at 16 year mark they would deduct 4% taking you down to 41% of your base pay. But the kicker was you had to fall into 2 categories to be approved for early retirement, 1 be in a over strength MOS and 2 be stagnant in your current pay grade for more than 4 years with no career progression. They are getting rid of Soldiers at the present time at a alarming rate. I have seen Soldiers with 7 years in hold the rank of E7, because they are being pushed thru at an alarming fast pace. Im not really sure on the Support MOS side, but in the combat mos's it was crazy to see guys with 7 or 8 years to be pinned E7. Glad Im out now because down the road it is gonna hurt the Army, it shows with young E6's with 5 years in the military are getting popped for DUI's and drugs at Fort Carson. They said it was a growing trend cross the Army as a whole. They will start chapter paperwork on you if you get a DUI, pop hot on a UA or have a DV incident no matter what rank you are.

Eh, I made E-7 in 7 years and I never broke the law, beat my wife or drunk drove into a cop car.  In regards to the early retirement, that is a tactic they have used before to reduce the size of the military, which is going on right now and is going to get worse.  However, those reductions will likely not touch the special operations field, so those offers of early retirement and such won't be available to folks in SF or SEALs.  In fact, the SEAL community is so very small, the last thing they would offer would be an early out incentive.  There is enough turnover in that community due to young folks they take into the program that will do one or two enlistments before separating.

As far as involuntary separation, when I went through ACAP I was absolutely shocked at the number of people getting booted.  I never realized the Army was so jacked up.  I also didn't realize that those little sh**bags that had spent the last few years on the Army Welfare Program were going to continue to steal from taxpayers once they were separated.  I didn't feel like I deserved anything on the way out the door, but damn, I sure deserved more than those bastards.

Heck, did you see some of their reenlistment bonus's they were offering 18 series MOS's, upwards of $150,000 to stay in and continue to serve. I had Soldier that went SF a few years ago was a 18B and when it was time to reenlist he took the money because he enjoyed what he did, even thought he was always gone. But like you said it is getting crazy on the amount of Soldiers they are putting out these days and yes it is gonna hurt the Army in the long run down the road in the future. I remember back when I came in they were downsizing from Desert Storm and then came out in 1996 and said they downsized too many people. I'm not sure why the SEAL got out when he did, but some of the team that were involved with that operation were killed a few years back in the Stan in a helicopter crash. He may have sensed that something may happen to him in the future after that happened. I mean look at Chris Kyle, the American Sniper who was just murdered in TX. The guy who murdered him said that he felt that Chris and the other guy were gonna kill him so he had to do what he had to do, which is totally messed up. But they are laying Chris Kyle to rest today in Austin, TX.

Like I said, I never drunk drove into a cop car or slapped my wife around.  They totally reward not doing dumb stuff.... unless you're an officer.  Then you get a medal.

On the Army Reserve side of the house we are starting the reduction process. They are getting pretty serious about it. I lost 36 just last week. They are not meeting the standards.
