That is totally ridiculous!  You all remember that commerical where the Chinese College Professor is talking to his students about how they own us.  It's damn near true!  What a sorry state this country is in!

That "Feds" is the federal reserve, technically not the US government. Japan holds 1.134 trillion as well, next highest country is 266 billion. But the Federal government actually holds 6.453 trillion of its own debt in different agencies. Social Security is the biggest at 2.72 trillion.

Not going to matter with the number continually rising and we don't appear to have the courage to get rid of the problem.

It will come to a head, soon, just like a zit.

It'll all work out...as soon as the USD crashes, they can print all they want and pay off the entire national debt.

 

This is what the world investment machine really fears, the payback in bucks that are worth less than they were when they bought the notes. Something as simple as OPEC demanding payment in something other than USD could cause it nearly overnight, too.

Somewhat.

 

China is the biggest foreign owner of U.S. Debt, but Japan seriously isn't too far behind them (1.13 Trillion). At less thay 10% the national debt, it's not as bad as everybody makes it seem, and no one ever talks about little old Japan's holding....
