Makes me laugh when I go on a MIL base or the airport,

I have a O2/ acetylene setup on my work van.

Never been asked about it, it sets in plain view.

Yep. Growing up, on 4th of July, my dad would fill industrial size trash bags, nail them to 2x4s and ignite them from a distance, of course.

Based on the term, plumbing supplies, I'm assuming that it was one of the handheld small canisters so transporting it in a trunk wouldn't be that uncommon, IMO.   But looking at the amount of damage to the car it might have been a bigger tank.    

 

 I will say I generally don't leave the nozzle screwed onto the tank after I finish using it since the things can leak.
