Yes..I agree... A screwy question. But think about this.

I have a job that pays well. Better than I could do almost anywhere. I've been there 15 years and will be there for 10 more.

This job and its property is governed by the FAA. (We have direct access to aircraft)

This job also has a no tolerance policy regarding weapons. So I'm not about to risk makin' hella cheese and a shot at a sweet retirement to pack heat there.

That said... I go straight to work and straight home. No stops, visits, detours...Nothing. I head straight in change clothes and grab my gun and it is on me the rest of the day.

I would love to be able to carry to and from work, but the penalty is just too high for me.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. In fact, when I read your post I figured I probably work for the same company as you. Just looked you up in the employee directory and believe I found you (based on your TGO screenname). I'm not in your building (other side of the airport).

I don't always go straight home. In fact, sometimes I run errands in some less than desirable areas after work.

I would at least like the option to park outside of the secure area of my building and leave it in my car. But like you, I have too much riding on this paycheck and it just isn't worth it.

The reason for that is sin, we actually were created to be good, in fact we were created in His image so we were without sin. Sin was introduced by Eve (dang women always starting somthing) (JK). and we have be dieing of sin since. So yes man is basicly evil and always looks to the bad. There are those of us who try to do right, and I would like to think there are actually more of us doing good than there are those doing bad.

Agreed.

Problem is... that it does not take too many evil people... to make things crazy! Does makes me want to carry more often... even at home.

As the USA moves further... and further away from it's Christian heritage & more towards a secular society, seems like things are getting worse. Kinda makes some sense from that point of view. Guess you might even call it... prophetic. ;)

:)

rant on

Had to move my kids out of public schools and into private schools last year. It's really amazing how the "government schools" have drunk the cool aid of secularism. :)

Some of the weak/unliked kids (not mine) were even being beaten up in school bathrooms with faculty standing outside the door "monitoring the area", unwilling to go in and stop it, cause they "could not get involved." The students knew it too. The hoolagens are now running the show. Knowing what I know now... I would not send my dog for training at my local high school.

rant off

my kind of officer. 2 stops in over 10 years and chewed royally for the way i carry. cocked and locked always.

That's when I ask him just how much time he has operating a 1911 and what makes him think he has a clue how it works.

can't carry at work and probably wouldn't anyway (welding sparks and firearms are probably not a good mix don't carry a butane lighter for the same reason) work is a Dept of Homeland security installation and i am not wanting to deal with that and I am not comfortable with leaveing a firearm in my car in the parking lot

I don't go past my mailbox without a gun...

No such a screwy question, BTW. You would be SHOCKED at how many people I pull over, who have a permit, but no gun with them at the time.

I'd guess-ta-mate it to be about 75%...amazing.

Have you ever asked why?

Have you ever advised any of these people why carrying a gun is a good idea ? (I've heard stories of lectures from anti LEOs, just wondering if you've ever given any pro-carry letures/suggestions to those you encounter.)

I have had a pro gun lecture by a Memphis City LEO. This was right after I took the class in 2006. I was at the bank, was talking with him about my class, and that I was still waiting on my permit to come in and not carrying. He said something along the lines of good for you, everyone needs to take responsiblity of protecting themselves. That they can't be everywhere all the time. He said he wouldn't live in Memphis and not carry. We had a great conversation.

here in Dayton 97% of LEOs are pro-gun. the guy that gives the HCP classes here is 3rd in command at the sheriff's dept.

Whenever I can't carry I keep a Ka-Bar TDI knife on my belt. Not as effective as a gun but will surely ruin someone's day.

Have you ever asked why?

Absolutely.

It usually boils down to their laziness or poor mindset (ie., the bad man won't come today). That's when they get the "choosing to be a victim" speech.

My Dept happens to be very "pro-gun" rights. Do we have some that think only cops should carry? Yep, but they are the minority.

Sadly, I am unarmed for 9-10hrs a day, 5-6 days a week... to, from, and during work. But, I can still answer yes, I guess, because I am armed every day on my own time.

I'm still waiting on my TN permit to arrive, but this is the 3rd state where I've held a permit over the last 17 years.

I have never carried everyday. I've typically worked for employers that expressly prohibited it. Even though I personally disagree, I make the choice to accept their policy as terms of my employment.

I have my permit so that when I do need or want to carry on my own time, I legally have the option. I don't feel the need to carry every time I walk out the door.

I'm sure that when I get my permit this time, it will be the same here.

I keep a gun in my truck at all times, in my drawer at the office, and on me everywhere else. See my quotes below.

See, the way I look at it, I'm not going to be able to predict in advance whether I'm likely to need my carry weapon at any given time. Thus, rather than defaulting to not carrying unless I feel the need to, I instead normally carry, unless I have a need not to.

Don't take this as any kind of attack on your choices: that's not what it is, just a statement of a different viewpoint that I have.

What days/circumstances/etc... make you feel the need to carry?

Good question.

Definitely would carry if I know I'm going into a bad neighborhood for some reason. If I'm going to be out all day, going downtown, or will be driving 2-3 hours to see family... I most likely would carry.

If I'm going to the pool or making a quick run to the Home Depot in my neighborhood, doubtful I would carry. Church would be an unlikely spot, but I wouldn't say never on that. Going to friends house for dinner & drinks -- I wouldn't carry.

In TN, absolutely without question every day--I don't drink in public or go to any federal buildings, and I haven't been back in my HS in two years. I carry literally EVERYWHERE I go in TN, except the afore-mentioned places.

In TX, it's illegal to carry a firearm onto a pipeline right-of-way. However, the parent company that owns the vehicles on that right-of-way dictates what operators of that vehicle may or may not do, and what they can or can not have in the truck. The company I work for not only allows but promotes self defense--so it's in the glove compartment, along with my holster, until I get ready to go home for the night. Three things go in my truck every morning: lunchbox, hardhat, and S&W J-frame. Everybody I work with down here is the same way.

I carry everyday all day, except when I am at work. Fire dept don't allow carrying:rolleyes:. I feel like, the one time I don't carry is the one time when I will need it.

I understand and thank you for the answer. I believe it is up to each person to choose how and when and what the carry and not for anyone esle to judge.

I would just say though that something bad could happen just as easy at the Home Depot, church or your friend's house as it could anywhere else.

Often places we frequent become "comfortable" to us and we tend not to be on guard as much as we might be otherwise. I would argue this is dangerous though and just because we are familar with a place doesn't make it safe...and we should be on-guard anywhere actually.

This is simply my opinon and may not even be worth $.02...but there it is.

11th paragraph from the bottom.

IMO, when you leave your home and choose not to carry a firearm when you legally could do so, you are choosing to be a victim/sheep and are putting yourself/family at the mercy of a better armed predator...just hoping the monster won't visit you that day.
