PRVI Partizan ammo...two thumbs down!

I took my 1891/59 and M44 to the range yesterday.  I started at the 50yd line with some new production Tula 147gr to make sure I was grouping and on target.  Not too bad, the M44 shot slightly better.  I was able to put 5 shoots into a 2 1/2" group.  The 91/59 shot a five shot group right around 3 1/2".

Time to try the 150gr PRVI Partizan.

Then I took them to the 100yd targets with the PRVI Partisan thinking, "This is supposed to be better ammo and it shoot great at 100 yds."  Boy was I wrong.  I shot a five shot string out of each and was so depressed at the results.  Both were like scatter guns and barely all 5 shots were on the paper.  I shot another 5 shot string to confirm, yep this stuff sucked.

I then went back to 50yds and shot on the same targets I had shot the Tula on for comparison.  Total crap, the same gun, same target, same range and the PRVI was roughly double the group as the Tula.

Pissed off I drove home trying to figure out if I had two crappy rifles, or was the ammo that bad.  Since the Tula shot well I figured it to be the ammo.  I stopped by Allen's Gun Store on the way home and asked one of the guys if they had a micrometer.  Told him my story and we started measuring a box of the PP and a box of Tula they had on the shelf.  All the Tula was right at .311.  The PP averaged .315 diameter, with a couple at .316 and only one at .311.

I strongly do not recommend anyone buy the 150gr SP PRVI Partizan.

Interesting.  I've had good luck with PRVI in other calibers.  I would think the larger diameter would actually be slightly more accurate but if they all varied in size it could throw things off.

All I shoot out of Mosins is surplus anyway.

Had nothing but good luck with Privi ammo. Would not hesitate to buy it for any caliber I shoot.

I have shot lots of PRVI in several calibers,  though never in 7.62x54r.  It all shot well and went where I aimed it.

Might be too good for a nasty old Mosin.  I never have shot anything but crusty old surplus ammo out of mine.
