Call it what you will, but an executive order by the Governor prohibiting travel is quite extreme.

"If you don’t have an exemption and you’re caught on the road, the penalty could be as steep as a $500 fine or, at worst, a year in jail."

I lived near Albany, NY as a kid.  We could have 3 feet of snow and STILL had to go to school.  No b.s.  These people are acting like they've never even seen snow before.  It's New England morons!  It snows.

It's probably overreaction...but you know as well as i do. There will be some dumbass who'll go out and get stuck and endanger rescue workers to come get him.

Those are the only ones it should apply too.

They probably won't be out stopping traffic unless there is a real have to case.

This is what happens when you have a lot of stupid people in your state.  This is probably done because there are always some jack ass that will get out, get stuck and then call 911 for help.  I really doubt that anyone will get anything close to a year if any time at all.

That's why smarter states, like Florida, have county emergency management offices which tell folks they ain't coming to help in certain conditions. So when they tell you to evacuate and you don't listen, they let your stupid ass be on your own.

If you didn't, you should have heard Rush making fun of Bloomberg and his "instruction" to the people. He mentioned the MA silliness, also.

Yeah, I had to turn Rush off yesterday, he was really pissing me off!  I sent him 2 or 3 emails.  I'm listening for politics, not for him to be a damn weather man.  He just carried his sarcasm wayyyy too far.  After checking back like 20 times over 90 minutes and he was still talking about it I just switched over to DelGiorno and Huckabee.  And I can't stand it when he wastes an hour on sports.  I DO NOT CARE!  Unless he would be talking about shooting.

It's authoritarianism/totalitarianism and unfortunately it's becoming quite popular all over "the land of the free, home of the brave" what the @#$% happened to America? Why hasn't that clown been tar'd & feathered?

Went through a similar situation in Florida back in 98 (IIRC) when we had the wildfires. The whole county of Flagler was under a mandatory evacuation. After about 3-4 days when we returned we saw the National Guard in front of WalMart with M16's, military vehicles at certain intersections not letting people through and there was a 4pm curfew for a few days. It was an eerie feeling but after those few days they left and no one was the worse off.

A customer in the liquor store yesterday mentioned he was from Mass.  He said it is common to order people to stay off the roads when these Nor'easters hit.  He acted like it was not a big deal.  It is to aid in the clearing of roads and to not have to waste resources on helping stranded travelers.

Calling it martial law is a little over the top.

I remember that. I was in the Ocala Forest during that period. You could barely drive due to the smoke.

'Recommending' that people stay off roads vs. making it a crime to be out punishable by a fine and/or jail are pretty extreme differences.
