I personally think most of the gun law 'improvements' that have been introduced so far are worthless.

 

 

To truly improve the law for permit holders this legislative session with a Republican supermajority, I think we should request these two things.

 

1.  Do not provide local parks with the ability to give someone with a permit a Class A Misdemeanor.  REally a A Misdemeanor when you have a permit and are carrying in a Memphis park?  I can understand a park asking someone to leave, but a 11/29 A Misdemeanor is over the top.

 

 

2.  Change 39-17-1359  and drop the 500 dollar fine and substitute instead a trespassing clause for people who refuse to leave when asked.  This works in other states, why do people in TN need to be subject to a fine?

 

 

Those who know legislators, ask why this isn't being done when they have been given a Rep Supermajority but not done anything for us but these weak parking lot bills.

 

If just these two things were done, we could legally carry anywhere but schools and courtrooms.  Politicians have got to get over this 'well it is their policy'.  Policy should not result in a criminal charge over a sign.  If Memphis does not want people with guns in parks and they catch someone with a permit and a gun, at most they should be able to ask someone to leave.  Let the fine be for people without a permit.

Get to know your legislators, get some friends and neighbors to know those same legislators, all of you ask them to carry those ideas to the legislature.

 

Best people to get it the way you want it are the ones you know and talk to.
