I said chew, I don't know for sure about burn. From what I've read they have a steel jacket instead of a copper jacket and that is much harder on the barrel. Also while they will only "light" after leaving the barrel they are burning through the first layer and that leaves extra residue in the barrel and gas system. Phosphorous and magnesium burn extremely hot and that is what makes these things light up.

 

Not saying don't get them, just be aware that there are virtually no places that will let you shoot them and if you are on private property you better have a way of putting out fires. I don't think they will damage your gun per-se but they definitely aren't a good for it.
