How can he be charged with brandishing a firearm when a toy gun does not meet the definition of firearm under Virginia law? I would bankrupt this school district with a lawsuit.

Exactly. Charging a kid playing with a toy gun with "brandishing a firearm" makes as much sense as charging a kid playing with a Hot Wheels car with "driving without a license."

Tells me that government can be unreasonable and citizens need to protect themselves from government.

They call it indoctrination. The next level is referred to as brainwashing! No more calling them schools; they are nothing more than Democrat Party Youth Re-education Centers.
These cops had nothing else better to do than this?

In my day, the police would respond, see that it was a toy and chastise the adults for being stupid and wasting valuable time. Political correctness, coupled with weeny-whiny bureaucrats is tyranny.

It's stupid on the side of the school and cops but it's equally just as stupid on the side of the parents.   I think by now we all know that schools love knee jerk reactions and love this kind of attention.  Why in the world the parents would not be on the look out is beyond me.

Several times a week on my way to school to drop off my 9 year old I talk to him about this kind of stuff and explain to him that it's probably not a good idea to talk about guns at school.  I also quiz him about what the teachers and faculty is saying about guns and events like Sandy Hook.  So far there has not been any indication that anyone in the school is trying to anything beyond trying to teach a little gun safety to the kids.  I.E. what do you do when you find a gun, etc.

taking over the schools is how they got liberalism into society in the first place ... they wish they could create immediate change, but realize taking over America is a long-term project.  trying to disallow transfer of guns upon death (new AWB) as well as indoctrinating the young generation against guns, guarantees that if they don't get the guns now, they will phase them out over one or two generations.
